IN PRESS,

A SPLENDID NEW EDITION

OF

POPE'S COMPLETE POETICAL WORKS,

INCLUDING HIS TRANSLATIONS OF

THE ILLIAD AND THE ODYSSEY. With an Original Memoir of the Author, Explanatory Notes, and several valuable Papers, not contained in any other edition.

EDITED BY W. C. ARMSTRONG.

EVERY pains have been taken to render this the most perfect edition ever issued, both as regards general cor rectness and typographical execution. It is stereotyped from a beautiful light-face small-pica letter, and is comprised in four large duodecimo volumes, of upwards of 500 pages each.-The Iliad and The Odyssey form distinct volumes, and will be furnished separately wherever required. Numerous elegant Illustrations are interspersed through the volumes, well calculated to enhance their value.

Extract from the Editor's Preface.-"In this country, where literary works are prized by many rather for their cheapness than for their correctness, it is hardly to be expected that publishers can afford the extra care and expense which are necessary to meet the views both of the economist and the scholar, and which are so well rewarded in England and in some parts of Germany. Yet, believing that a really good edition of Pope-one recognised as such in literary circles-will ultimately repay the extraordinary outlay necessary to produce it, the publishers have ventured upon the present experiment; confidently relying upon the discrimination of the public to sustain them in their enterprise."
