I appreciated the opportunity to testify before your subcommittee and welcome your additional questions. AFSA will forward the final results of its survey, as mentioned in my statement, as soon as possible for your information. I understand you posed a question about why AFSA did not survey the state attorneys general during the hearing. After review of state freedom of information and access statutes, AFSA counsel determined that state law enforcement agencies are generally exempt from such a request. AFSA posed its questions to banking-related agencies because they regulate our industry and because we believe that most consumers would at least initially refer their complaints to such agencies as the scope of their concerns ultimately relates to the denial of credit. - In those states which gave a referral to another agency attorney general's office or other -- we have filed similar requests. Again we find no significant number of complaints and note that proponents of legislation rely only on anecdotal examples. Sincerely, Kennet Hoew Kenneth E.
