Received by the Wise-Rejected by the Unwise.

Neh. 13:11 Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place. 17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day? 18 Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.

Dan. 5:22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; 23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified. 24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

Hos. 5:2 And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a rebuker of them all.

Mat. 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offence unto me: for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Lk. 23:40 But the other answering, rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? [See Ministry, 404.]

514. Reproof gratefully received by the humble.

Ps. 141:5 Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.

Pr. 25:12 As an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

28:23 He that rebuketh a man, afterwards shall find more favor than he that flattereth with the tongue.

515. Reproof rejected by the proud.

Pr. 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowl edge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 25 But ye

have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof.

Pr. 13: 1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

15:10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. 12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

Am. 5: 10 They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

Lk. 3:19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, 20 Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

Jn. 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

516. Wisdom of receiving reproof-folly of rejecting it. Pr. 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

10:17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

12:1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

13:18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honored.

15:5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. 10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

29:1 He that, being often reproved, hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Ec. 4: 13 Better is a poor and a wise child, than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.

517. Reprovers should correct their own faults.

eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Are there any whom it is hopeless to reprove?

REPUTATION.

518. Value of reputation.

Pr. 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

Ec. 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD.

519. General resurrection of the dead.

Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.

Hos. 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues, O grave, I will be thy destruction.

Jn. 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life and I will raise him up at the last day.

11:23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Ac. 4:1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, 2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

24:15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead both of the just and unjust.

Incorruptible Bodies.

Ac. 26:8 Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?

Rom. 6:8 Now, if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

1 Cor. 6:14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.

15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. [See the whole chapter.]

2 Cor. 4: 14 Knowing, that he which raised up the Lord Jesus, shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

1 Th. 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

520. The dead raised with incorruptible bodies.

1 Cor. 15:35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? 36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened except it die: 37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be. 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put

on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

2 Cor. 5:2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Ph. 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

REVIVALS.

Ac. 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word, were baptized and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

4:4 Howbeit, many of them which heard the word, believed, and the number of the men was about five thousand.

5:14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.

8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed
