Why boaftest thou thyself in Mischief, O mighty Man? The Goodness of God endureth continually.

• The Wicked boasteth of his Heart's Desire: Through the Pride of his Countenance he will not seek after God. He hath said in his Heart, I shall not be moved; I shall never be in Adverfity. But the Lord shall cut off all flattering Lips, and the Tongue that speaketh proud Things.

• God will punish the stout Heart of the Conqueror, and the Glory of his high Looks; who faith, I have removed the Bounds of the People, and have put down the Inhabitants like a valiant Man. By the Strength of my Hand I have done it; and by my Wisdom, for I am prudent. Shall the Ax boast itself against him that hewąth therewith? Or shall the Saw magnify itfelf against him that shaketh it? Or ihall the Staff lift up itself, as if it were no Wood? Therefore shall the Lord of Hosts lop the Bough with Terror ; and the high Ones of Stature shall be hewn down, and the Haughty shall be humbled.

e God resisteth the Proud, but giveth Grace unto the Humble ; fubmit yourselves therefore to God: Humble yourselves in the Sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

f Learn of me, (faith our Saviour) for I am meek and lowly in Heart ; and ye fhall find Rest

Souls.

8 Put not forth thyfelf in the Presence of the King, and stand not in the Place of great Men: For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the Presence of the Prince, whom thine Eyes have seen.

h When thou art bidden of any Man to a Wedding, fit not down in the highest Room, left a more honourable Man than thou be bidden of him; and he that bade thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this Man Place; and thou begin with Shame to take the lowest Room: But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest Room, that when he that bade thee cometh he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher : Then shalt thou have Worship in the Presence of them that sit at Meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abafed; and he that humbleth him felf shall be exalted.

ye not as the Scribes and the Pharisees, who loved the uppermost Rooms at Feafts, and the chief Seats in the Synagogues, and Greetings in the Markets, and to be called of Men, Rabbi, Rabbi ; who did all their works to be seen of Men. And be not as the chief Rulers among the Jews, who loved the Praise of Men more than the Praise of God.

* How can ye believe, which receive Honour one of another, and seek not the Honour that cometh from God only?

** Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Whosoever shall humble himself as a little Child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

• Though the Lord be high, yet hath he Respect unto the Lowly ; but the Proud he knoweth afar off. Surely he scorneth the Scorners; but he giveth Grace unto the Lowly.

p When Pride cometh, then cometh Shame; but with the Lowly is Wisdom.

4 Before Destruction the Heart of Man is haughty; and before Honour is Humility.

' A Man's Pride shall bring him low; but Honour Thall uphold the huinble in Spirit.

s He that is of a proud H, ftirreth up Strife. Seest thou a Man wile in is own Conceit? There is more hope of a Fool than of him.

* A proud Look doth the Lord hate; and every one that is proud in Heart is an Abomination to the Lord.

# Wo unto them that are wife in their own Eyes, and prudent in their own Sight. For the Day of the Lord of Holts fhall be upon every one that is proud and lifted up, and he shall be brought low : The lofty Looks of Man fhall be humbled ; and the Haughtinefs of Men shall be bowed down; and the Lord alone thall be exalted in that Day.

MEEK

16. 5.

MEEKNESS. Y w Cease from Anger, and forsake Wrath : Fret not thyself in any wife to do Evil.

* Be angry, and sin not : Let not the Sun go down upon your Wrath ; neither give place to the Devil.

y Put away from thee a froward Mouth, and perverse Lips put far from thee.

2. Let not thy Spirit be provoked, so as to speak unadvisedly with thy Lips.

· Be not hasty in thy Spirit to be angry; for Anger resteth in the Bosom of Fools.

Let every Man be swift to hear, now to speak, flow to Wrath; for the Wrath of Man worketh not the Righteousness of God.

· Let your Moderation be known unto all Men: The Lord is at hand.

"Let the holy Women, who trust 'in God, adorn themselves with that which is not corrup, tible, even the Ornament of a meek and, quiet Spirit, which is in the Sight of God of great Price.

• He that is soon angry, dealeth foolishly; and he that is hafty of Spirit, exalteth Folly ; but he that is flow to Wrath, is of great Understanding,

A Fool's Wrath is presently known, but a prudent Man covereth Shame,

& Seeft thou a Man that is hasty in his Words? There is more Hope of a Fool than of him.

An angry Man ftirreth up Strife; and a furious Man aboundeth in Transgression.

i A fost Answer turneth away Wrath ; and Yielding pacifieth great Offences; but grievous Words Itir up Anger.

* Meekness is the Fruit of the Spirit ; but Wrath and Strife are the Works of the Flesh.

1 Blefed are the Meek, for they fall inherit the Earth, and fhall delight themselves in the Abundance of Peace.

in The Lord will guide the Meek in Judgment; and the Meek will he' teach his Way. The Meek also fhallincrease their Joy in the Lord.

* He that is now to Anger, is better than the Mighty; and he that ruleth his Spirit, than he that taketh a City. But he that hath no Rule over his own Spirit, is like a City that is broken down and without Walls.

• He that hath a froward Heart, findeth no Good; and he that hath a perverse Tongue, falleth into Mischief.

p They that are of a froward Heart, are Abomination to the Lord.

9 A Man of great Wrath shall suffer Punishment ; for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do

it again.

Wrath bringeth the Punishment of the Sword; that ye may know there is a Judgment.
