DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE APPROPRIATION: North Atlantic Treaty Organization Infrastructure, FY 1983 APPROPRIATION LANGUAGE North Atlantic Treaty Organization Infrastructure For the United States share of the cost of multilateral programs for the acquisition or construction of military facilities and installations (including international military headquarters) for the collective defense of the North Atlantic Treaty Area as authorized in military construction acts, ($345,000,000) $375,000,000, to remain available until expended. (Military Construction Appropriation Act, 1982; additional authorizing legislation to be proposed.) DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE APPROPRIATION: North Atlantic Treaty Organization Infrastructure, FY 1983 Appropriation Introduction This appropriation provides funds for the United States share of the NATO Infrastructure program, a program which provides those minimum essential, dedicated wartime facilities required to support the deployment and operation of NATO military forces, including U.S. forces committed to NATO. The program is financed collectively by NATO member countries in accordance with a negotiated cost sharing formula. It operates under financial ceilings established to cover five-year periods. The amount for each five-year period is set through a process of negotiation and requires unanimous approval of all financially participating nations.
