While the writer repeats himself quite often and is a product of his century, Esdaile has much to offer regarding Mesmerism and particularly with regard to surgery which seemed to be his main work in India.
He gives some detail about his surgical procedures and medical cases with which he used Mesmerism with quite positive and extraordinary results in most cases. He had ample witnesses who were prepared to attest to his work.
Esdaile might have spent more time on his mesmeric procedures. Apparently, he did his work largely by the seat of his pants.
I recommend the read. And thanks to Google Books, for the gift.
