PREFACE

The Instruction Papers which are furnished to the students of the International Correspondence Schools become so badly worn and soiled when a student has completed his Course, that he has worn them out, and they are no longer suitable for reference or review. Since the Instruction Papers are very valuable, especially to those who have studied them, there grew up a demand for sets of the Instruction Papers, indexed for convenient reference, and durably bound for preservation. To meet this demand

the Papers were revised, reset, and electrotyped, and are herewith presented permanently bound in handsome halfleather volumes.

The volumes for the present Course, the Surveying and Mapping, are three in number:

The first volume in the order of study contains the Instruction Papers and Examination Questions on Arithmetic, Formulas, Geometry and Trigonometry, Surveying, Land Surveying, and Mapping.

Of the two additional volumes, one volume contains the Instruction Paper on Geometrical Drawing, and the plates that go with it, and the instructions for drawing them. On account of the large size of this volume in former editions and an increasing demand on the part of students that this volume correspond in size with the others of the set, we have had it reset and have inserted the plates on guards. As both this volume and the one containing the Tables and
