REQUIREMENT: 104,317 SF Adequate: 5,952 Substandard: 98,365 SF PROJECT: Upgrade Munson Army Hospital's electrical, mechanical, and architectural systems to meet life safety/accreditation standards for a hospital. REQUIREMENT: A safe, functional health care facility which can meet current life safety, fire, and hospital standards is required to support the Fort Leavenworth military community. CURRENT SITUATION: Munson Army Hospital was placed in service in 1961. By current standards and advances in medical technology, the hospital has maior fire, life safety, air supply, heating, cooling, electrical and communications deficiencies. Fxisting deficiencies include poor fire ratings, unsatisfactory control and isolation of operating room atmosphere inadequate electrical power distribution and outlets, no independent water supply shut offs, and inadequate exits. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: Ise of the existing facilities will continue with the safety of patients and staff at risk. Accreditation of the hospital cannot be retained with the existing deficiencies. The loss of accreditation would seriously impact both the perception of the quality of medicine and ability to attract and retain qualified medical personnel. |
