PROJECT NUMBER 5P-001.1 Acquisition of Real Property 11. REQUIREMENT: (Continued) CURRENT SITUATION: The Congress authorized and appropriated funds (FY 82 MILCON) for acquisition of an existing building in Los Angeles for the use of AFRTS-LA to replace three substandard and costly, leased facilities located in the Hollywood/Los Angeles area. The three leased facilities total 42,729 SF. The AFRTS-LA, with a work force of 137 civilian and military personnel, has a continuing requirement for the equivalent of the space currently utilized, and no suitable Governmentowned, or other leased space, is available. A study of all known available properties which would satisfy this requirement has concluded that the property at 10888 La Tuna Canyon Road satisfies this requirement. Authorization and funds to acquire the property were provided in the FY 82 MILCON program. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: Continued occupancy in present facility (pending Congressional approval of funds to reconfigure new facility) will continue to adversely affect mission, indefinitely postpone installation of worldwide satellite system supported by the Congress, and incur expenditure of additional funds for lease of the three facilities in current use.
