Units are existing Wherry Housing proposed for acquisition. Units are presently two story brick and frame multiplex buildings. Following acquisition conversion and modernization to meet existing space standards will be accomplished. General nature of reconfiguration involves combining two small twobedrooms into one criteria three-bedroom unit with two full baths. Existing oil fired boiler/hot water heating system and individual window A/C units will be replaced with unit heatpump heating and cooling. Walls, roof and crawlspace to be insulated; replacement of existing windows with double glazing, insulated metal front and rear doors, and new roofs, gutters and downspouts are planned.

Mission or Major Functions

Provide logistic and underwater training support to the
Atlantic Fleet and logistic support for the operating
forces of the Navy and dependent activities, including
Naval Air Station, Naval Security Group, Marine Barracks,
Dental Clinic, Naval Hospital and Navy Commissary Store.

Family housing units will be two-story apartment flats, townhouses and duplexes (FGO units) configurations. Construction will be of reinforced concrete or unit masonry due to the projects location in the hurricane area. Interior finish includes gypsum board walls/ceilings, vinyl asbestos floors and carpeting of second floor flats. Scope includes carports, patios, privacy screening and exterior storage. Basketball, handball and tennis courts are provided in addition to tot lots for recreational support within the housing area. The use of solar energy is planned to provide 45% of the domestic hot water if cost effective.

Any air and water emissions resulting from the project will meet applicable Federal standards.

An Environmental Assessment is not planned due to the projects location in Cuba. A grey water system is planned for sanitary flushing.
