Second Week. Thursday Morning.

to do, while the day continues, and before the night cometh in which no man can work. Awaken to righteousness the aged; let the hoary head be a crown of glory. May we all aspire to that honorable age which standeth not in length of time, nor is measured by number of years; to that wisdom which is the gray hair unto man, and an unspotted life, which is old age.

Increase our love and Christian affection for all mankind. May we weep with those who weep, and rejoice with them that rejoice, and pray for all who desire and all who need our prayers. Be merciful, we beseech thee, O be merciful to them who do not pray for themselves. May they be convinced of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment, and call upon thee in a time accepted.

Be merciful to those who are far from the kingdom of God. By the power of thy grace, bring them near to thyself, that they may see the light of thy truth, and rejoice in thy salvation. Hear our prayer for the poor and needy; such as we have, our prayers, at least, may we ever be ready to give, and according to our means and opportunity bestow upon them the things they need. Grant them grace to be contented and resigned to thy will: may they be rich in faith; heirs of thy heavenly kingdom, rejoicing in hope, and knowing that all things work for good to those who love and fear thee.

Preserve them who are rich from being highminded and trusting too much in worldly things. Let them not forget who it is that giveth men power to get wealth, and maketh them to differ from the poor and wretched. Help them to be faithful stewards of the wealth and other good things committed to their trust. May they be ready to give and glad to distribute, laying up for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may attain eternal life.

Second Week. Thursday Evening.

We ask thy blessing, O Lord, upon our friends and benefactors. May we ever remember, with grateful affection, all who have done us good, and wilt thou reward them for their kindness and love. Bless, we beseech thee, all who are near and dear to us may they be dear to thee, and under thy merciful care and protection. Preserve us from ingratitude, and help us to make due returns of kind affection to all who have been kind to us.

Regard with favor the people of this our country, and be gracious to our native land. May that righteousness increase which exalteth a nation; and preserve us, we entreat thee, from sin, which is a reproach to any people, and has been the ruin of thousands.

We beseech thee, O Lord, to incline thine ears to us who have now made our prayers and supplications unto thee, and grant that the things which we have asked may mercifully be obtained, to our comfort, and to thy glory, through Jesus Christ, our blessed Lord and Savior. Amen.

Second Week. Thursday Evening.

O LORD God our heavenly Father, who hast promised, by thy Son, that where two or three are gathered together in his name, he will be with them, and that if a few shall agree on earth, as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them, behold with thy favor and blessing us few in his name here assembled, who would unite in asking of thee those things which are requisite and necessary for our bodily comfort and for our spiritual good. Make us duly thankful that thou dost vouchsafe to forgive the sins, and to hear the prayers, and to relieve the wants of thy unwor

thy creatures. For this thy great goodness we bless thy holy name, beseeching thee to give us the spirit of grace and supplication, and help us to ask for such things as we truly need.

We entreat thee, O merciful God, to forgive our sins, to accept our prayers, to sanctify our hearts and renew a right spirit within us; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life. Awaken in our minds such a sense of thy love and of thy goodness, that we, loving thee above all things, may walk in thy ways and attain to thy promises, which exceed all that we can ask or think. Do thou, who hast delivered our soul from death, preserve our feet from falling, and give us grace to walk according to thy holy precepts. According to the riches of thy grace strengthen us with might by thy Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith; that we may be rooted and grounded in love; that we may know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, and be filled with all the fulness of God.

Prepare us, O Lord, for all the changes of this present world: may we know how to be abased and how to abound, and learn, in whatever state we are, therewith to be contented. Give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put upon us the armor of light; to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. O may thy Spirit bear witness with our spirit, that we are thy children and joint heirs with Christ of thy heavenly kingdom.

And the blessings which we supplicate for ourselves, would we ask for our fellow-men. We beseech thee to extend the light of thy truth and the power of thy grace through the darkness of this sinful world, and among all the nations of the earth. May our heart's desire and prayer for Israel be that they may be saved. Call in the Jews, with

the fulness of the Gentiles; say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Keep not back. Bring thy sons from far, and thy daughters from the ends of the earth.

We beseech thee to hear our prayer for the unnumbered millions who still remain in heathen darkness. Grant that the Sun of Righteousness may rise upon them with healing in his wings. O wilt thou raise up and send forth laborers into this great harvest. Let thy Spirit and the richest blessings of thy grace be with those ministers of thy word, who, with their life in their hand, and thy love in their hearts, go forth to preach the gospel in foreign lands. Preserve their health and give them aid from above: according to their day may their strength be. Stretch out thine arm with power until thou hast obtained the heathen for thine inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Give thy blessing to those who associate for benevolent and religious objects; who contribute of their substance and by their prayers to the promotion of Christian knowledge and to the propagation of the gospel in foreign parts. Wilt thou enlarge their means and bless their labors.

And we beseech thee to keep thy household, the church, in continual godliness, and preserve it by thy perpetual mercy. Enlarge its borders, and daily add to it such as shall be saved. Defend it from error in faith and practice, and to all its members give the abundance of thy grace, that they may adorn their profession by living soberly, righteously and godly in this present world. We pray especially for that part of thy church to which we belong, and for those of thy people with whom we are more particularly connected in religious privileges. Strengthen, we beseech thee, those who stand; comfort and help the weak and wavering; raise up

those who fall, and bring all who err into the way of truth. May grace and mercy and peace be upon all who love the Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity.

And wilt thou grant to all, who profess and call themselves Christians, union, peace and love. May they, with one heart and one mind, hold the true doctrines of eternal life, and strive together for the faith of the gospel. May we never forget that the end of the commandment is charity, without which all our words and faith and works are nothing. May we abound in the fruit of the Spirit, which is in all goodness and righteousness and truth. Preserve us from all heresy and schism: may we do nothing which will cause or perpetuate divisions among the disciples of Jesus Christ. Him that is weak in the faith may we receive in love, rather than to doubtful disputations. Help us to rejoice in the good that is done by all or any Christians of any name: and especially that Christ is preached, and that the doctrines of life are made known to

men.

Give us, O Lord, a right judgment in all things, and hearts disposed in all things to do right; and be thou the strength of our heart and our portion forever. We ask these things in the name and through the mediation of Jesus Christ, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all glory and praise, both now and ever. Amen.

Second Week. Friday Morning.

ADORABLE and everliving God, to whose patient goodness we owe it that we thy dependent creatures are again permitted to bow our knees and unite in prayer before thee, let, we beseech thee, thine ears be attentive to our humble supplications. Thank
