of eternal life. O deal not with us according to our sins, nor reward us as our transgressions deserve.

To whom can we go for pardon and peace but to thee, O Lord, who alone hast the words of eternal life? but to thee, who hast graciously promised, that if the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and turn to thee, thou wilt have mercy upon him, and abundantly pardon? We beseech thee to pardon our sins and renew a right spirit within us. Grant us that righteousness which is by faith in Jesus Christ. Sanctify and govern our hearts and our bodies, in the ways of thy laws and in the works of thy commandments, and grant that our hopes and our desires may centre in Jesus Christ, our only Savior, and our souls be united with him, in a holy faith, as branches are with the vine. May he be made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption, and all our glorying be in him. Give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put upon us the armor of light, while we sojourn in this state of mortality, in which our Savior once visited us in great humility. And in the last day, when he shall come again, in glorious majesty, to judge the world, grant that we may rise to life immortal, through him, who died for our sins and rose again for our justification.

Hear our prayers, O Lord, for all mankind; may the light of thy truth extend through the world, and increase, until all the nations of the earth shall rejoice in thy salvation. Bless all thy churches and all thy people, and those especially with whom we are connected in the fellowship of the gospel. May Zion be in prosperity; peace be within her walls, and plenteousness within her palaces. And may the kingdoms of the earth become the kingdoms of the Lord and of his Christ.

help us to remember the afflicted and distressed. Hearken to the sighing of the needy; cause the widow's heart to sing for joy, and in thee may the fatherless find mercy. Give to them who mourn in Zion beauty for ashes, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Comfort all who are visited with affliction. Sanctify their sorrows, and raise their minds from the world to thee.

Look in mercy upon those who are visited with sickness and bodily distress. May they bow with submission under thy rod, knowing who hath appointed it, and through thy grace make all the improvement which thou requirest. Help them to glorify thee, whether it be by life or by death, knowing that to live is Christ, and to die is gain, to those who die in the Lord.

May we remember them who are in bonds as bound with them, and them who suffer adversity as being ourselves also in the flesh. Let thy goodness, in preserving us from many evils which others suffer, make us humble and compassionate, and thankful to thee, who makest one to differ from another and art equally good to all.

We beseech thee to comfort and to strengthen all such as are fearful of thy terrors and distrustful of thy mercy. The bruised reed thou wilt not break; a broken and contrite heart thou wilt not despise. May all who mourn for their sins be comforted through thy mercy in Jesus Christ. In the light of thy reconciled countenance, may they dwell in peace and rejoice in hope. And grant, O Lord, we may not, for any troubles of life, or allurements of this world, lose our confidence in thee, nor place it in any other.

Make us thankful for the mercies of the day past, and that we are yet spared to speak of thy goodness. Preserve us, we pray thee, through the perils of this night. Let no evil happen unto us,

nor plague come nigh our dwelling. May we lie down in peace and take our rest, and through thy mercy rise again in safety. And while we live may we live to thee, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and immortal God, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind; the Giver of all spiritual grace and the Author of everlasting life, we desire humbly to look this morning unto thee, as our Father, who art in heaven, and the hope of all the ends of the earth. The eyes of all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season; thou openest thy hand and fillest all things living with plenteousness. Through thy goodness are we again permitted to unite in praising thee for thy goodness, and in asking for those things which we daily need. And may thy Spirit help us to ask for such good things as to thy wisdom it may seem fitting to bestow. We acknowledge that we are unworthy to ask or to receive of thee any thing good. Our sins deserve thy displeasure; we have followed the evil devices and desires of our own hearts. Work in us, we beseech thee, a hearty contrition, that we may obtain, through Jesus Christ, perfect remission and forgiveness.

With thankful hearts we would bless thy name, that to thee, O Lord, belong mercy and forgiveness; that through thy love to mankind, and the redemption that is in Jesus Christ, thou canst be just in justifying them who believe in him. We bless thee that life and immortality are brought to light in his gospel, and for all thy goodness and loving kind

We thank thee that our lot has fallen where his gospel is preached and its ordinances administered, and that we may know from childhood those Scriptures, which, if truly received, will make us wise unto salvation. We thank thee for the ministry of those who are ordained to preach thy word; for the means of grace, and for all the privileges of thy sanctuary.

Give us hearts to be duly thankful that we are brought in safety to see the light of another day, and that we again have the opportunity of renewing our humble sacrifice of praise and prayer. We beseech thee to incline our hearts unto thy testimonies, and to guide our steps in the way of thy precepts. May we love the things which thou commandest, and strive for those which thou dost promise. Give us just views of ourselves, what we are and what we need. Do for us and work in us that which thou shalt see fitting for our present comfort and eternal good. Increase our faith, enliven our hope, and shed abroad thy love in our hearts. Give us grace

to follow after that charity which is the bond of perfectness; which suffereth long and is kind; which envieth not and vaunteth not itself; is not easily provoked and thinketh no evil. May we never rejoice in iniquity, but rejoice in the truth.

And accept, O Lord, our prayers for all our fellow-men, that they may be subjects of thy mercy and obedient to thy will. Bless thy faithful people, wherever they are dispersed throughout the world; peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. Grant that, by the operation of thy Spirit, all Christians may be so joined together in unity and love, that they may be a holy temple acceptable unto thee. Prosper thy word wherever it is spoken and send it where it is not heard, that thy way be known through all the earth, thy saving health among all nations. Let the people whom

thou hast redeemed praise thee, O Lord; let all the people praise thee. May the borders of Zion be enlarged, till all the kingdoms of the earth become the kingdoms of the Lord and of his Christ.

Grant that the ministers of thy word may be faithful stewards of thy mysteries and the instruments of converting men to God, and of saving themselves and others. Open to them an effectual door of usefulness. Give them, we beseech thee, utterance, that they may open their mouth with boldness to make known the mystery of the gospel: may they rightly divide the word, and give to all their portion of meat in due season; and may their own lives bear testimony to the truths which they teach. And grant that all who are desiring or designed for the office of that sacred ministry, may, by thy sanctifying Spirit, be prepared for a faithful and successful discharge of its duties. Prepare them to labor in word and doctrine, in season and out of season, and to spend and be spent in thy work. And give us grace so to account of them as stewards of thy mysteries. To those who are faithful in word and doctrine, may we render double honor.

Behold, O Lord, in thy mercy, Israel after the flesh. Remove the veil of ignorance which blinds the mind of the Jews: may they see and know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and the only Savior of the world; and may they seek with penitence and faith Him whom their fathers rejected. Pity that blindness which has in part happened unto Israel, and hasten on the time when, as the natural branches, they shall be grafted into their own olive tree; when the fulness of the Gentiles shall come in, and all Israel shall be saved.

We pray for thy blessing upon our churchesupon our country-upon our rulers, and upon all who are in authority. Give them wisdom and
