Operations in arc welding vary widely according to the nature of the opportunity job. The extent to which a handicapped person may successfully ing for you. therefore it is possible to weld successfully with but one arm, provided there is enough of a stump left in the other arm to permit the use of an artificial appliance with which to handle electrode rods. Of course where the carbon electrode is used it is necessary to hold the welding rod in the other hand; but where a hand is missing this purpose can in most cases be successfully accomplished through the use of an artificial appliance. It is possible on many welding operations, especially in repetition jobs in manufacturing, to work in a sitting posture. In some instances, however, and particularly in the case of general repair work, the welder has to adapt himself to the job, and this

requires flexibility and strength of body, as the welder may not only have to stand up for many hours of the day but also to assume stooping or strained positions.

Training.

Arc welding is not only an art but a science as well. The process has reached such a stage of development that well-trained welders are needed who possess not only the required manipulative skill, but the necessary technical knowledge as well, and who are thereby in position to contribute to the further extension and improvement of the process. The aim of the training contemplated is to make just such a welder of you. The duration of the course will vary to suit the requirements of each individual case.

A very important function of such reeducation is to help you in getting accustomed to your disability and overcoming it.

After a few years, the disabled man can no longer rely upon patriotism to hold him in a position where he can not do the work in competition with the trained normal man. He is too proud as an exsoldier to be sustained by charity. There is only one way out for him, and that is to take training so that he can maintain himself in the after years with dignity as an ex-soldier of
