Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, and upon them that put their trust in his mercy.

Let thy merciful kindness, O Lord, be upon us, like as we do put our trust in thee.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

James iv. 13-15.

Go to now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain :

row.

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morFor what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

LET US PRAY.

For safety in all changes and chances of the New Year.

Assist us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications and prayers, and dispose the way of thy servants towards the attainment of everlasting salvation; that, among all the changes and chances of the year before us, we may ever be governed and preserved by thy great goodness, both in body and soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Direction and Success in all the undertakings of the Year.

Prevent us, O Lord, in all our doings, with thy most gracious favour, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works this year, begun, continued, and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for the Circumcision, being that of the Day.

Almighty God, who madest thy blessed Son to be circumcised, and obedient to the law for man; Grant us the true Circumcision of the Spirit; that our hearts, and all our members, being mortified from all worldly and carnal lusts, we may in all things obey thy blessed will; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For the right use of our Time.

Almighty and everlasting God, whose righteousness is like the strong mountains, and thy judgments like the great deep; Teach us so to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. And grant that, ever looking upon ourselves as sinful dust and ashes, we may press forward to the prize of the high calling that is before us, in faith and patience, humility and meekness, charity and constant perseverance unto the end: And all this for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ his sake; to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

King Charles the Martyr.

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

COLLECTS FOR HOLY-DAYS,

To be added to the Family Prayers of the Days to which they severally belong. The portions of Scripture read before Prayers, are to be taken from the proper Lessons, the Epistle, or the Gospel of the Day.

The Epiphany. January 6.

GOD, who by the leading of a star didst manifest thy only-begotten Son to the Gentiles; mercifully grant, that we, which know thee now by faith, may, after this life, have the fruition of thy glorious Godhead; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Conversion of St. Paul. January 25.

O God, who, through the preaching of the blessed Apostle St. Paul, hast caused the light of the Gospel to shine throughout the world; Grant, we beseech thee, that we, having his wonderful conversion in remembrance, may show forth our thankfulness unto thee for the same, by following the holy doctrine which he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Presentation of Christ in the Temple. February 2. Almighty and everliving God, we humbly beseech thy Majesty, that, as thy only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple in substance of our flesh, so we may be presented unto thee with pure and clean hearts, by the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Matthias. February 24.

O Almighty God, who into the place of the traitor Judas didst choose thy faithful servant Matthias to be of the number of the twelve Apostles; Grant that thy Church being alway preserved from false Apostles, may be ordered and guided by faithful and true Pastors, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Annunciation of the Virgin. March 25.

We beseech thee, O Lord, pour thy grace into our hearts; that, as we have known the incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an angel, so by his cross and passion we may be brought unto the glory of his resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Mark. April 25.

O Almighty God, who hast instructed thy holy Church with the heavenly doctrine of thy Evangelist St. Mark; give us grace, that being not like children carried away with every blast of vain doctrine, we may be established in the truth of thy holy Gospel, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
