to do those things that I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

At the end of forty days, Jesus came again to the disciples. in Jerusalem, and he talked with them and commanded them to stay in the city until they should be endued with power from on high.

One day Jesus led his disciples out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them.

The apostles still retained their carnal hopes concerning the Redeemer's kingdom, and they asked him, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? Jesus said, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father hath in his own power; but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.

Then Jesus was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. While they looked toward heaven as he went up, two men stood by them in white apparel and said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus will so come in like manner as ye have seen him go.

He would not come to live with them as he had done before, but would come for his people and to judge the nations.

After the Lord had been taken up into heaven the disciples returned to Jerusalem and went into an upper room. There they continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his breth

There were about one hundred and twenty in all. Then Peter stood up in their midst and said that the Scripture prophecies concerning Judas must needs have been fulfilled, for David said in the Book of Psalms, Let his house be desolate, and let no man dwell therein, and his office, let another take; for he was numbered among us as an apostle. Peter advised that a new apostle be elected to take the place of Judas, and that the man chosen should be one that had been with them from the baptism of John to the close of the Lord's ministry; who also had been a witness of his resurrection.

Then two men were selected, named Joseph and Matthias.

And they prayed and said, Thou, O Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which of these two thou hast chosen. And they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

TEN days had now passed away, and the day of Pentecost, which was the day for the feast of the harvest, was come.

The disciples were all gathered together in one place, praying with one accord. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, sitting upon the head of each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and could speak with other tongues beside their own, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Multitudes of people were in Jerusalem attending the feast. Many of them were Jews that had left Judea, and lived in other countries, and who spake the language of those countries.

The noise of the rushing mighty wind was heard over the whole city and drew a great crowd to the place where the disciples were assembled.

They were all amazed when they heard the disciples speak in so many different languages, and said, Are not all these that speak Galileans? What means this that they can speak so many different languages? And besides they are ignorant and unlettered men. Others mocked and said, These men are full of new wine. But Peter stood up, and said they were
