1 Mr. Justice Brewer's commission was dated December 18, 1889. The oath of office was administered to him in open court, January 6, 1890, and he immediately took his seat upon the bench. He took part in no decision reported in this volume.

2 Mr. Jenks having resigned, Mr. Chapman was commissioned on the 29th day of May, 1889, and qualified the same day. On the 7th January, 1890, he was confirmed by the Senate and was recommissioned. He died in the city of Washington on the morning of Sunday, January 19, 1890.
