Help me to watch and pray,
And on thyself rely:
Assured, if I my trust betray,
I shall forsaken die.

True Length of Life.

1 LIKE shadows gliding o'er the plain,
Or clouds that roll successive on,
Man's busy generations pass,

And while we gaze, their forms are gone.

2 "He lived, he died;" behold the sum,

The abstract of the historian's page!
Alike in God's all-seeing eye,

The infant's day, the patriarch's age.

3 0 Father! in whose mighty hand
The boundless years and agés lie,
Teach us thy boon of life to prize,
And use the moments as they fly;

4 To crowd the narrow span of life

With wise designs and virtuous deeds;
So shall we wake from death's dark night,
To share the glory that succeeds.

For Holiness.

1 THE thing my God doth hate
That I no more may do,

Thy creature, Lord, again create,
And all my soul renew:
My soul shall then, like thine,
Abhor the thing unclean,
And, sanctified by love divine,
Forever cease from sin.

2 That blessed law of thine,
Father, to me impart;

The Spirit's law of life divine,
O write it in my heart!'
Implant it deep within,

Whence it may ne'er remove,
The law of liberty from sin,

The perfect law of love.

3 Thy nature be my law,

Thy spotless sanctity,

And sweetly every moment draw

My happy soul to thee.

Soul of my soul remain!
Who didst for all fulfil,
In me, O Lord, fulfil again
My heavenly Father's will.

ANONYMOUS.

Baptism of a Child.

1 To thee, O God in Heaven,

This little one we bring,

Giving to thee what thou hast given,
Our dearest offering.

2 Into a world of toil

These little feet will roam,
Where sin its purity may soil,
Where care and grief may come.

3 0 then, let thy pure love,

With influence serene,

Come down, like water, from above

To comfort and make clean.
