Mr. BARNETT. Yes. We will do whatever we can in the way of making more secure the facilities. This has been one point raised by the U.S. officials. We have the sterile lounge, but there could be some contact with other passengers not precleared in their passage from the sterile lounge to the aircraft. We are prepared to correct this situation to the satisfaction of the U.S. authorities.

Senator MONTOYA. And who do you represent here at this hearing? Mr. BARNETT. The Bahamas Government.

Senator MONTOYA. What is your official capacity?

Mr. BARNETT. I am the Permanent Secretary to the Minister of External Affairs.

Mr. LANDRY. Mr. Chairman, if I may conclude, there is a great deal of evidence incorporated in my statement with regard to the fact that the cooperation between our Government and the foreign governments involved can and does work. We think that can be heightened and improved. With the spirit of willingness evidenced by Mr. Barnett, I am sure that this can be achieved.

In addition, there is also some indication in our statement as to the willingness and the eagerness of the airlines to cooperate. We have a few signs we would plan to use at the preclearance ports to demonstrate that we indeed would want the passengers to be fully warned of just what was at stake.

These are just a few of the signs, just three of them, that we would plan to use at the preclearance ports.
