On motion, the President appointed a committee on banks, in lieu of the persons heretofore appointed who have leave of absence, consisting of Mr. Burton, Mr. Smilie and Mr. Jones.

Mr. Short, from the committee on bills, reported that the committee have this day delivered to the governor, for his approval and signature, bills of the following titles:

(S. 21.) "An act extending the jurisdiction of constables.".

(S. 7.) "An act in addition to an act entitled 'an act to incorporate the Goshen turnpike company.'"

(S. 12.) "An act to abolish imprisonment for debt."

(H. 55.) "An act to incorporate the Wallingford manufacturing company,

(H. 33) "An act altering the name of the town of Woodbury to that of Munroe.'

AFTERNOON.

Mr. Hubbell, from the committee on the judiciary, to whom was referred a bill (H. 58') entitled “an act in addition to an act constituting probate courts," reported the same without amendment, and it was read the third time and passed.

Mr. Hubbell, from the same committee, to whom was referred a bill (. 63.) entitled "an act to establish the boundary line between the towns of Westminster and Athens," reported said bill without amendment, with the opinion of the committee adverse to its passage, and the question, Shall the bill be read the third time? being taken, was decided in the negative.

So the bill was rejected.

Mr. Hubbell, from the same committee, to whom was referred a bill (H. 60) entitled "an act to repeal the second section of an act therein mentioned." reported the said bill without amendment, and the ques tion, Shall the bill be read the third time? being taken, was decided in the negative.

So the bill was rejected.

A message from the House of Representatives by Mr. Merrill, their clerk:

Mr. PRESIDENT: The House of Representatives concur with the Senate in the first and third amendments proposed by the Senate to the bill (H. 43.) entitled “an act in addition to and alteration of an act entitled an act regulating the chartering of banks, passed Nov. 9, 1881,". and do not concur with second proposed amendment.

The Senate took up the said bill entitled "an act in addition to and alteration of an act entitled an act regulating the chartering of banks, passed Nov. 9. 1831."

On motion of Mr. Pierpoint,

Resolved to recede from said second proposed amendment.

(S. 50.) Mr. Pierpoint introduced a bili entitled "an act relating to the Rutland and Whitehall Rail Road," which was read the first and second time.

Ordered, That the bill be engrossed and read the third time.

The said bill having been engrossed, was read the third time and passed.

Mr. Robinson, from the committee on the judiciary, to whom was referred a bill (H. 61.) in addition to an act for the support of the gospel, reported the same without amendment.

Ordered, That it be laid on the table.

Mr. Robinson, from the same committee, to whom was referred a bill (H. 67.) incorporating burying ground associations, reported the bill without amendment.

Ordered, That it be laid on the table.

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourn, it adjourn to meet at seven o'clock this evening.

Mr. Short moved that the vote taken this morning refusing to order to be engrossed a bill (S. 37,) entitled "an act directing the treasurer to pay Rufus Campbell, the sum therein mentioned," be reconsidered, and on this question, the yeas and nays having been required by Mr. Pierpoint, were taken, and were as follows:

Those who voted in the affirmative are:

Messrs. Allen, Bowen, Chittenden, Curtis, Goodwin, Harvey, Hebard, Hubbell, Jones, McMillan, Robinson, Short, Swift-13.

Those who voted in the negative are:

Messrs. Burton, Chandler, Edson, Lawrence, Pierpoint, Steele, Tenney-7.

So it was determined in the affirmative.

On motion of Mr. Short.

Ordered, That the vote limiting the time within which a motion of reconsideration is required to be made, be suspended so far as to permit a motion for a reconsideration of the vote filling the blank in the bill en titled "an act directing the treasurer to pay Rufus Campbell the sum therein mentioned," with the words, "five hundred and twenty eight dollars and eighty-six cents."

On motion of Mr. Robinson,

Ordered, That the vote filling the blank in said bill, as aforesaid, be reconsidered.

The question recurring on filling the blank with the words, "five hundred and twenty-eight dollars and eighty-six centss," was decided in the negative.

Mr. Short moved to fill said blank with the words, three hundred and seventy two dollars, and on this question, the yeas and nays having been required by Mr. Pierpoint, were taken, and were as follows:
