RICHARD CECIL. In preparing the work, thus carried out, in two volumes, it has been thought expedient to re-arrange, in part, the materials of the first single volume. The Sermons are now divided into four series: viz. I. Sermons on subjects connected with Christian Experience : II. Sermons for particular Seasons: III. Sermons on subjects chiefly Doctrinal: IV. Sermons chiefly Admonitory. This arrangement precludes an order either biblical, or chronological. A complete Index has been added to the present edition. The design and tendency of the whole work, now submitted to the public, is to aid in upholding a sound and Scriptural Theology; and to promote, by the Divine blessing, an improved state of religious sentiment and feeling: while it will also furnish numerous incidental remarks calculated to counteract such errors, doctrinal and practical, as may from time to time (and especially in the present day) be found springing up in the Church, and corrupting the simplicity of the Gospel. Although the price of the work has been unavoidably increased by its present bulk, every effort has been made still to keep it within the reach of those for whose use it is principally designed. C.
