WALTER CHETWYND, eldest son, was created viscount Chetwynd, of Bearhaven, co. Cork, and baron of Rathdowne, co. Dublin, 29 June 1717, with limitation to the heirs male of his father. He m. Mary, da. and co-h. to John Berkeley, viscount Fitz-Harding, who d. 3 June 1741; his lordship d. without issue 21 Feb. 1735, and was succeeded by his brother,

GUSTAVUS HAMILTON, VISCOUNT BOYNE, and Baron Hamilton, of Stackallen, co. Meath,; born 12 April 1777 ; succeeded his father, Gustavus, the late viscount, 29 Feb. 1816;

married, 4 Aug. 1796, Harriet, sole da, of Benjamin Baugh, of Burwarton House, co. Salop, esq., and has issue,- -1. GUS. This branch of the noble house of Hamilton is descended from sir Frederick, 5th and youngest son of Claude, 1st lord Paisley, ancestor of the marquess of Abercorn (see that title). Sir Frederick was father of

GUSTAVUS, who was of the privy council to king James II., but embraced the party of the revolution, 1688, and distinguished himself at the battle of the Boyne, (from whence he afterwards took his title,) at the defence of Londonderry, and the storming of Athlone. He attained to the rank of major-general, and was appointed vice-admiral of the province of Ulster; created, 20 Oct. 1715, baron Hamilton, of Stackallan; and, 20 Aug. 1717, viscount Boyne; m. Elizabeth, da. of sir Henry Brooke, of Brooke's Borough, co. Fermanagh, knt., and by her (who d. 28 Dec. 1721) had issue,

1. FREDERICK, m., 1707, Sophia, sister of James, viscount Limerick, and d. 1715, leaving issue,
