The Same, adapted to the present reign, with the rubrics in red. 1842 This Collection of Books of Common Prayer are uniformly reprinted in Black Letter, like the original editions. The importance and value of this Series of the Book of Common Prayer are well known; but it is remarkable that in no public or private, or collegiate library, can the whole of these Books be found together. A limited number only has been reprinted by Mr Pickering. The Book of 1662 has been carefully collated with the Sealed Book in the Tower of London, and other copies of the Sealed Book have been occasionally consulted. The price of the Seven volumes, half-bound in parchment gilt, £8. 8s. published at £23 2s. "We need not recommend then, we are sure, this magnificent set of Books to every one who has the power of procuring them; as mere specimens of typography, they are worthy of all praise, and a creait to our own times. Although not within the means of hundreds, who else would gladly possess them, and as a set, it is impossible they should be, we must remind others that these seven volumes are to be had at a less sum than half of what, even though it was offered them, one of the two Books of King Edward or the Elizabeth would cost them. The only perfect copy of the latter, printed in 1559, which we remember to have occured at a sale, produced one hundred guineas; and this was not an edition of the highest authority, like either of the folios, but a small 12mo. In the same collection (of the Duke of Sussex) were two imperfect copies of the 1549 and the 1552; and these sold each for more than thirty guineas. "But we do think that great establishments, colleges and cathedral libraries should supply themselves with Mr. Pickerings reprints. It is scarcely within the range of possibility, and we speak advisedly, that they can procure, at any cost all the originals; and next to these this edition of them is to be relied upon. For colleges they are no less valuable than for cathedrals; there is a daily increasing interest about our Liturgies and Rituals, and people begin to see that very much depends upon the arguments which they supply; and as to our present Book, whilst on the one hand we are not blind enough to suppose it to be perfection, we can still look to it with deep reverence and love, as containing very much that is holv, and Catholic, and true. To increase the love of these studies, and to supply authorities which may be relied upon, is, we assert, an imperative duty upon all who are intrusted with the care and direction of those who are destined to fill the most important stations in both Caurch and State."-English Churchman, No. 166.
