Behold ye [], I have set the land before you, go in and possess the land which I have sworn [n] unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto their seed after them 15 EN if- Sam. XIII. and adds at the end of the verse (the first of the chapter) the following words from Deut i. 20-22, with some slight alterations of the Hebrew text, which we put in brackets: And ,[ייאמר משה לבני ישראל] Moses said unto the children of Israel Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the Lord our God doth give unto us. Behold, the Lord thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged. And they came near unto Moses, and said (hox" mua 38 1], Let us send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come; and .[וייטב הדבר בעיני משה] the saying pleased Ioses well 24 וילכו ויבאו ויתרו [22] .Sam and they went up, and came and searched. was called Sam. [31] and said to him ; Sept. aur. 33 At the end of this verse the Samaritan [34] adds what is found in Deut. i. 27-33: And the children of Israel murmered in Because ,[וירגנו בני ישראל באהליהם ויאמרו] their tents, and said the Lord hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites, to destroy us. Whither shall we go up? since our brethren have discouraged [] our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great, and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there. And Moses said unto the children of Israel, Dread not, neither be afraid of them. The Lord your God, which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the Lord thy God bare thee, as a a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until came into this place. Yet in this thing ye did not believe the went in the way before you, to search Lord your God, who ye you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day. 12 and I will make thee CHAP. XIV. and I ואעשה אתך ואת בית אביך .Sam will make thee and thy father's house; Sept. κai moińow oe kai and truth; Sept. Sam. unto their fathers, to give it to them 40 At the end of this verse the Samaritan adds what is read in Deut. i. 42: And the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight, for I am not among you, lest ye be smitten before your enemies. 45 in that hill בהר ההוה לקראתם וירדפו אתם כאשר תעשינה .Sam 7 in that hill to meet them, and they persecuted them as bees do (comp.
