USCPSC COMPILATION OF LAWS

The Consumer Product Safety Act (Public Law 92-573; 15 U.S.C. 2051, et seq.) established the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and transferred to it the responsibility for implementing several existing laws, specifically:

* The Flammable Fabrics Act, as amended (15 U.S.C. 1191, et seq.); *The Federal Hazardous Substances Act, as amended (15 U.S.C. 1261, et seq.);

* The Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 (15 U.S.C. 1471, et seq.);

* The Refrigerator Safety Act of 1956 (15 U.S.C. 1211, et seq.).

Enactment of the Consumer Product Safety Act was the culmination of more than a decade of accelerated interest by the Congress and the pub. lic in consumer product safety. The law confers numerous authorities on the Commission to help marshal the resources of the consuming public, the business community and public agencies to reduce the risk of injury associated with the use of consumer products.

This compilation of laws which the Commission administers has been published in an effort to help you become aware of Federal Legislation that is pertinent to you, the consumer.
