CHAP. XLI.

EEP filence before me, O iflands, and let the people renew their ftrength: let them come near, then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.

2 Who raised up the righteous man from the eaft, cal- | led him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the duft to his fword, and as driven ftubble to his bow.

3 He purfued them, and paffed fafely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet.

4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the Lord the first, and with the laft, I am he

5 The ifles faw it and feared, the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and

came.

7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldfmith; and he that smoothed with the hammer, him that fmote the anvil, faying, It is ready for the fodering: and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.

8 But thou, Ifrael, art my fervant, Jacob whom I have chofen, the feed of Abraham my friend.

9 Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and faid unto thee, Thou art my fervant, I have chosen thee, and not caft thee away.

10 Fear thou not, for I am with thee: be not difmayed, for I am thy God: I will ftrengthen thee, yea, I will help thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteoufnefs.

11 Behold, all they that were incenfed against thee, fhall be afhamed and confounded: they fhall be as nothing, and they that strive with thee, fhall perish.

12 Thou fhalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against

15 Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing-your ftrong reafons, faith the inftrument, having teeth: King of Jacob. thou fhalt thresh the mountains, and beat them fmall, and fhalt make the hills as chaff.

16 Thou fhalt fan them, and the wind fhall carry them away, and the whirlwind fhall scatter them; and thou fhalt rejoice in the Lord; and fhalt glory in the holy One of Ifrael,

17 When the poor and needy feek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Ifrael will not forfake them. 18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a

pool of water, and the dry land fprings of water.

19 I will plant in the wildernefs the cedar, the fhittah-tree, and the myrtle, and the oil-tree; I will fet in the

22 Let them bring them forth, and fhew us what fhall happen: let them fhew the former things what they be, that we may confider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.

23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are godse yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be difmayed, and behold it together.

24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you.

25 I have raised up one from the north, and he fhall come: from the rifing of the fun fhall he call upon my name, and he fhall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.

4 Since thou waft precious in my fight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

5 Fear not, for I am with thee: I will bring thy feed from the eaft, and gather thee from the west.

6 I will fay to the north, Give up; and to the fouth, Keep not back: bring my fons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the

CHAP. XLIII.

UT now thus faith the Lord that created thee, Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Ifrael, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine.

2 When thou paffeft through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they fhall not oyerflow thee when thou walkeft through the fire, thou fhalt not be burnt; neither fhall the flame kindle upon thee.

7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him, I have made him. yea, 8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.

9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be affembled: who among them can declare this, and fhew us former things? let them bring forth their witneffes, that they may be juftified: or let them hear and fay, It is truth.

10 Ye are my witneffes, faith the Lord, and my fer

3 For I am the Lord thy Ivant whom I have chofen:

that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he before me there was no god formed, neither. fhall there be after me.

11 I, even I am the Lord, and befide me there is no faviour.

12 I have declared, and have faved, and I have fhewed, when there was no ftrange god among you therefore ye are my witneffes, faith the Lord, that I am God.

13 Yea, before the day was, I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who fhall let it?

14 Thus faith the Lord your redeemer, the holy One of Ifrael, For your fake I have fent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whofe cry is in the fhips.

18 ¶ Remember ye not the former things, neither confider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing now it shall spring forth, fhall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the defert.

20 The beafts of the field fhall honour me, the dragons and the owls: becaule I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the defert, to give drink to my people, 'my chofen.

21 This people have I formed for myfelf, they fhall fhew forth my praise.

22 But thou haft not called upon me, O Jacob, but thou haft been weary of me, O Ifrael.

23 Thou haft not brought me the final cattle of thy burnt-offerings, neither haft

15 I am the Lord, your thou honoured me with thy holy One, the creator of If-facrifices. I have not caused rael, your king. thee to ferve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incenfe.

16 Thus faith the Lord, which maketh a way in the fea, and a path in the mighty waters:

28 Therefore I have profaned the princes of the fanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curfe, and Ifrael to reproaches.

CHAP. XLIV.

YE

the Lord, and furname himSelf by the name of Ifrael.

6 Thus faith the Lord the king of Ifrael, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts, I am the firft, and I am the laft, and befides me there is no God.

7 And who, as I, fhall call, and fhall declare it, and fet it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and fhall come? let them fhew unto them.

8 Fear ye not, neither be

ET now hear, O Ja-afraid: have not I told thee cob my fervant, and Ifrael, whom I have chofen.

2 Thus faith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee, Fear not, O Jacob my fervant, and thou Jefurun, whom I have chofen.

3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy feed, and my blefling upon thine offspring:

4 And they fhall fpring up as among the grafs, as willows by the water-courfes.

from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witncffes. Is there a God befides me? yea, there is no God, I know not any.

9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity, and their delectable things fhall not profit, and they are their own witneffes, they fee not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

io Who hath formed a god, or moltena graven image that is profitable for nothing?

II. Behold, all his fellows fhall be afhamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them ftand up;

5 One fhall fay, I am the Lord's: and another fhall call bimfelf by the name of Ja-yet they fhall fear, and they cob: and another fhall fub- fhall be afhamed together.
