29 Their roaring shall be ike a lion, they fhall roar like young lions: yea, they fhall roar and lay hold of the prey, and fhall carry it away fafe, and none fhall deliver it. 30 And in that day they fhall roar against them, like the roaring of the fea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness, and forrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof,

10 T OREOVER, the Lord fpake a gain unto Ahaz, faying.

II Afk thee a fign of the Lord thy God, afk it either in the depth, or in the height above.

12 But Ahaz faid, I will not afk, neither will I tempt the Lord.

13 And he faid, Hear ye now, O house of David, Is it a fmall thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God alfo?

14 Therefore the Lord himfelf fhall give you a fign, Behold, a virgin fhall conceive and bear a fon, and fhall call his name Immanuel.

15 Butter and honey fhall he eat, that he may know to refufe the evil, and choose the good,

16 For before the child fhall know to refufe the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forfaken of both her kings.

lee of the nations.

2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the fhadow of death, upon them hath the light fhined.

3 Thou haft multiplied the nation, and not increafed the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harveft, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

4- For thou haft broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppreffor, as in the day of Midian,

6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government fhall be upon his fhoulder: and his name fhall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlast- 5 And righteousness shall ing Father, The prince of peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there fhall be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom to order it, and to eftablish it with judgment, and with juftice, from henceforth even for ever: the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

CHAP. XI.

ND there fhall come forth a rod out of the ftem of Jeffe, and a branch fhall grow out of his roots.

2 And the fpirit of the Lord fhall reft upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the fpirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord:

3 And fhall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord, and he fhall not judge after the fight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears.

4 But with righteoufnefs fhall he judge the poor, and

be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

6 The wolf alfo fhall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard fhall lie down with the kid: and the calf, and the young lion, and the fatling together, and a little child fhall lead them.

7 And the cow and the bear fhall feed, their young ones fhall lie down together: and the lion fhall eat ftraw like the ox.

8 And the fucking child fhall play on the hole of the afp, and the weaned child fhall put his hand on the cockatrice-den.

9 They fhall not hurt nor deftroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth fhall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the fea.

10 ¶ And in that day there fhall be a root of Jeffe, which fhall stand for an enfign of the people; to it fhall the Gentiles feek, and his reft fhall be glorious.

II And it fhall come to pafs

and maketh it waste, and turneth it upfide down, and fcattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

2 And it fhall be, as with the people, fo with the prieft; as with the fervant,

12 And he shall fet up an enfign for the nations, and fhall affemble the outcafts of Ifrael, and gather together the difperfed of Judah, from the four corners of the earth. 13 The envy alfo of E-fo with his master; as with phraim fhall depart, and the adverfaries of Judah fhall be cut off: Ephraim fhall not envy Judah, and Judah fhall not vex Ephraim.

14 But they fhall fly upon the fhoulders of the Philiftines toward the weft, they fhall spoil them of the eaft together: they fhall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon fhall obey them.

15 And the Lord fhall utterly deftroy the tongue of the Egyptian fea, and with his mighty wind shall he fhake his hand over the river, and fhall fmite it in the feven ftreams, and make men go over dry-fhod.

the maid, fo with her miftrefs; as with the buyer, so with the feller; as with the lender, fo with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, fo with the giver of usury to him.

3 The land fhall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this word.

4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languifheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languifh.

5 The earth alfo is defiled under the inhabitants thereof: because they have tranfgreffed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the ever

lafting covenant.

6 'Therefore hath the curfe devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are defolate therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

7 The new wine mourn eth, the vine languifheth, all the merry-hearted do figh.

8 The mirth of tabrets ceafeth, the noife of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceafeth.

9 They fhall not drink wine with a fong, ftrong drink fhall be bitter to them that drink it.

10 The city of confufion is broken down: every houfe is fhut up, that no man may come in.

11 There is a crying for wine in the ftreets, all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

12 In the city is left defolation, and the gate is finitten with deftruction.

13 When thus it fhall be in the midst of the land among the people, there fhall be as the fhaking of an olivetree, and as the gleaninggrapes when the vintage is done.

14 They fhall lift up their voice, they fhall fing for the majefty of the Lord, they fhail cry aloud from the fea.

15 Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires, even the name of the Lord God of Ifrael in the ifles of the sea.

16 From the uttermoft part of the earth have we heard fongs, even glory to the righteous: but I said, My leannefs, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treache roufly, yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously,

17 Fear, and the pit, and the fnare are upon thee, O

inhabitant of the earth.

18 And it fhall come to pafs, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear, fhall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit, fhall be taken in the fnare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean diffolyed, the earth is moved exceedingly.

20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and fhall be removed like a cottage, and the tranfgreffion thereof fhall be heavy upon it, and it fhall fall, and not rife again.

21 And it fhall come to pafs

pafs in that day, that the Lord fhall punish the hoft of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

22 And they fhall be gathered together as prifoners are gathered in the pit, and fhall be fhut up in the prifon, and after many days fhall they be vifited.

23 Then the moon fhall be confounded, and the fun afhamed, when the Lord of hofts fhall reign in mount Zion and in Jerufalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

CHAP. XXV.

LORD, thou art my God, I will exalt thee, I will praife thy name; for thou haft done wonderful things; thy counfels of old are faithfulness and truth.

2 For thou haft made of a city, an heap of a defenced city, a ruin: a palace of ftrangers to be no city, it fhall never be built.

3 Therefore fhall the ftrong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations fhall fear thee.

terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

5 Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the fhadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones fhall be brought low.

6 And in this mountain. fhall the Lord of hofts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

7 And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering caft over all people, and the veil that is fpread over all nations.

8 He will swallow up death in victory, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces, and the rebuke of his people fhall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.

9 And it fhall be faid in that day, Lo, this is our God, we have waited for him, and he will fave us: this is the Lord, we have waited for him, we will be glad and re
