Joshua was now to rule the children of Israel as the Lord should teach him, and to lead them into the land which God had promised to their fathers. "And Joshua was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him." Joshua led the children of Israel to the banks of the river Jordan, and they encamped there; and after three days the officers of the children of Israel went through all the camp, and commanded the people, that when they should see the priests the Levites take up the ark of the Lord their God, and bear it onwards, they should rise up and follow it; for the ark was to lead them the way that they were to go.
