them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me, thall be loved of my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas faith unto him (not Ifcariot,) Lord, how is unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and faid unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not, keepeth not my fayings: and the word which ye hear, is not mine, but the Father's which fent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet prefent with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will fend in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have faid unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give, unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I faid unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I faid, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come to pass; that when it is come to pafs, ye might believe. Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even fo I do. Monday in Whitsun-Week. OD, who as at this time G didft teach the hearts of thy faithful people, by the fending to them the light of thy Holy Spirit; Grant us by the fame Spirit to have a right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort, through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the fame Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen. T For the Epistle. Acts x. 34. HEN Peter opened his mouth, and faid, Of a truth I perceive that God is no refpecter of perfons: but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. The word which God fent unto the children of Ifrael, preaching peace by Jefus Chrift; (he is Lord of all;) that word, I fay, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptisin which John preached: how God anointed Jefus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghoft and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppreffed of the devil: for God was with him. And we are witneffes of all things which he did, both in the land of the Jews and in Jerufalem; whom they flew and hanged on a tree. Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; not to all the people, but unto witnesses chofen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with hun after he rofe from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to teftify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whofoever believeth in him thall receive remiffion of fins. While Peter yet fpake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcifion which believed were aftonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost for they heard them fpeak with tongues, and magnity God. Then anfwered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be bap. tized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. G The Gospel. John iii. 16. OD fo loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whofoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlafting life. For God fent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be faved. He that believeth on him is not condemned but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, left his deeds should be reproved: But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God. Tuesday in Whitsun-Week. The Collect. OD, who as at this time G didft teach the hearts of thy faithful people, by the fending to them the light of thy Holy Spirit; Grant us by the fame Spirit to have a right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort, through the merits of Chrift Jesus our Saviour, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the fame Spirit, one God, world without end, Amen. For the Epistle. Acts viii. 14. V The Gospel. John x. 1. ERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the theepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the fame is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the thepherd of the theep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the theep follow him for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spake Jesus unto them but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. Then faid Jefus unto them again, Verily, verily, I fay unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pafture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to deftroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. A TRINITY SUNDAY. LMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hast given unto us thy fervants grace, by the confeffion of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the divine Majesty to worthip thou wouldest keep us stedfaft in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities; who livest and reigneft, one God, world without end. Amen. WHEN the apostles which the Unity; We befeech thee, that were at Jerufalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they fent unto them Peter and John: who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghoft for as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then laid they their hands on them, d they received the Holy Ghost. A behold, For the Epistle. Rev. iv. 1. FTER this I looked, and, a door was opened in heaven; and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which faid, Come up hither, and I will fhew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the Spirit: and, behold, a throne was fet in heaven, and one fat on the throne. And he that fat was to look upon like a jafper and a fardine-ftone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in fight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne were four and twenty feats: and upon the feats I saw four and twenty elders fitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. And out of the throne proceeded light wings and thunderings and voi ces and there were feven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the feven Spirits of God. And before the throne there was a fea of glass, like unto cryfial: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beafts, full of eyes before and behind. And the firft beaft was like a lion, and the fecond beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beafts had each of them fix wings about him; and they were full of eyes within and they reft not day and night, faying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. And when those beafts give glory and honour and thanks to him that fat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down before him that fat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and caft their crowns before the throne, faying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; for thou haft created all things, and for thy pleafure they are and were created. T The Gospel. John iii. 1. man of the Pharifees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the fame came to Jefus by night, and taid unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no man can do thefe miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jetusanswered and faid unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus faith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the fecond time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I fay unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is fpirit. Marvel not that I faid unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it lifteth, and thou hearest the found thereof, but canft not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered and faid unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and faid unto hin, Art thou a master of Ifrael, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I fay unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how thall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath afcended up to heaven.but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Motes lifted up the ferpent in the wildermess, even fo musft the Son of man be lifted up; that whosoever believeth in him should notperish, but have eternal life. First Sunday after Trinity. GOD, the strength of all them that put their truft in thee, mercifully accept our prayers; and because through the weakness of our nature we can do no good thing without thee, grant us the help of thy grace, that in keeping mortal thy commandments we may please thee, both in will and deed, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. BEL The Epistle. 1 John iv. 7. ELOVED, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God to ward us, because that God fent his only-begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and fent his Son to be the propitiation for our fins. Beloved, if God to loved us, we ought alfo to love one another. No man hath feen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwell eth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father fent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whofoever shall confefs that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath torment. He that feareth, is not made perfect in love. We love him because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not feen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother alfo. The Gospel. Luke xvi. 19. HERE was a certain rich T man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of fores, and defiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his fores. And it came to pass that the beggat died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bofom: the rich man alfo died, and was buried; and in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and feeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom and he cried and faid, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and fend Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham faid, Son, remember that thou in thy life time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: fo that they which would pafs from hence to you cannot; neither can they pafs to us that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house; for I have five brethren: that he may testify unto them, left they alfo come into this place of torment. Abraham faith unto him, They have Mofes and the prophets; let them hear them. And he faid, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he faid unto him, If they hear not Mofes and the prophets, neither will they be perfuaded though one rose from the dead. 1 fear and love of thy holy Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. M The Epistle. 1 John iii. 13. ARVEL not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have paffed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother, abideth in death. Whofoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and feeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compaffion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither In tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall affure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God: And whatsoever we alk, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his fight. And this is his commandment, That we thould believe on the name of his Son Jefus Chrift, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. A The Gospel. Luke xiv. 16. CERTAIN man made a great fupper, and bade many: and fent his fervant at fupper-time to fay to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one confent began to make ex cufe. The first laid unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I muft needs go and fee it: I pray thee have me excused. And another faid, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another faid, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. me. So that fervant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the mafter of the house, being angry, faid to his fervant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.. And the fervant faid, Lord, it is done as thou haft commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord faid unto the fervant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For 1 fay unto you, That none of thosemen which were bidden shall taste of my fupper. Third Sunday after Trinity. LORD, we beteech thee grant that we, to whom thou hast given an hearty defire to pray, may by thy mighty aid be defended and comforted in all dangers and adversities, through Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen. The Epiftle. 1 Pet. v. 5. ALL of you be fubject one another, and be clothed with humility for God refifteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: cafting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be fober, be vigilant; because your adverfary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about feeking whom he may devour: whom refift, ftedfast in the faith, knowing that the fame afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Chrift Jesus, after that ye have fuffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, fettle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |
