Joint Committee on Atomic Energy: Committee held further executive hearings to receive testimony with regard to results of recent nuclear weapons tests (Hardtack operation, phases 1 and 2) and possible effects of a moratorium on further nuclear weapons development, with testimony from Adm. E. N. Parker, Chief, and Col. Jack Ledford, both of the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project; and Gen. Herbert B. Loper, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Atomic Energy. POLARIS PROJECT

Joint Committee on Atomic Energy: Subcommittee on Military Applications held an executive session to receive a briefing on the Polaris missile project from Rear Adm. W. F. Raborn, Director, Special Projects, Navy.

PRINTING

Joint Committee on Printing: Committee approved the awarding of contracts on 33,632,500 pounds of paper in the amount of $4,203,869, and for 47,901,000 envelopes in the amount of $202,604.

Following this action the committee held an executive session to conduct routine committee business, included in which was the adoption of rules of procedure for the 86th Congress.

Committee on Foreign Relations: Committee held an executive meeting, following which it announced that it will hold hearings on January 27 on the nominations of Leonard J. Saccio, to be Deputy Director for Mutual Security, ICA; Livingston T. Merchant, to be Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs; John O. Bell, to be Assistant Secretary of State for Mutual Security Affairs; and 5 of 50 pending Foreign Service nominations.

Committee also considered a draft resolution relative to the Berlin situation, but postponed its further consideration until January 27.
