"This does not seem to have proceeded from Wither, who in it is publicly called upon to state the grounds of various of his proceedings."

CAMPO-MUSE, or the Field-Musings of Captain George Wither; touching his Military Ingagements for the King and Parliament. Small 8vo. mor. gilt. London, 1643 "This poem," Wither tells us, was written while he was in the army for the King, and Parliament; to reunite and not divide them." It produced John Taylor's (the water poet) Aqua Musa. In the Bibl. Angl. Poet. £2. 2. THE GREAT ASSISES; Holden in Parnassus, by Apollo, and his Assessours. 4to. green mor. gilt.

London, 1645

This tract is assigned to Wither by Dalrymple, though not registered as such, by the poet, or his biographers. Wither, in the tract, acts as foreman of the poetical jury.

VOX PACIFICA. A Voice tending to the Pacification of God's Wrath, and Offering those Propositions, or Conditions; by the Acceptation, and Performance whereof in some good measure, a Firme and Continuing Peace May be Obtained. 12mo. mor. gilt, frontispiece. London, 1645 In Lloyd's Sale, £2.

OPOBALSAMUM ANGLICANUM. An English Balme, lately passed out of a Shrub, and spread upon these Papers. 4to. half calf. London, 1646 "An inflammatory poem, full of keen invective, and written in the usual fearless style of Wither's satirical productions." In Bibl. Angl. Poet. £2.12.6. AMYGDALA BRITANNICA, Almonds for Parrets, A Dish of Stone-Fruit, partly shel'd, and partly unshel'd,. etc., 1647; WITHERS REDIVIVUS, in a Small New-Year's Gift, Pro Rege et Grege, and to his Royal Highness the Prince of Orange, etc., 1689; AN EPISTLE AT RANDOME, in Prose and Metre, to be delivered to all whom it may concern, 1659; A CORDIAL CONFECTION, to strengthen their Hearts, whose Courage begins to fail, by the Armies lately dissolving the Parliament, 1659. 4 works in 1 vol. 4to. calf.

London, 1647-89 The "Amydala" was published anonymously, but Wither claims it in his "Fides Anglicanæ."

PROSOPOPEIA BRITANNICA. Britan's Genius, or Good-Angel personated, Reasoning and Advising touching the Games now Playing, and the Adventures now at Hazard in these Islands. Small 8vo. mor. gilt.

London, 1648

CARMEN EUCHARISTICON. A Private Thank-Oblation, exhibited to the Glory of the Lord of Hosts, for the timely and wonderful Deliverance, vouchsafed to this Nation, in the routing of a numerous Army of Irish Rebells before Dublin, by the sword of his Valiant Servant, Michael Jones. 4to. mor. gilt. London, 1649

Jones was the Parliamentary Governor of Dublin, the defeat so exultingly celebrated by Wither, took place August, 1649.

VATICINIUM VATIVUM; or, Palamon's Prophetick Prayer, to which is annexed a Paraphrase on Paulus Grebnerus's Prophesie, with several Elegies on Charles 1st, the Lords Capel and the Lord Francis Villiers. 12mo. mor. gilt. Trajecti, N. D. (1649)

A very rare volume, but Lowndes queries whether written by Wither.

A TRIPLE PARADOX, affixed to a Countermure raised against the Furious Batteries of Restraint, Slander and Poverty. Small 8vo. mor. gilt. London, 1651

"Argued in verse with great dexterity of reasoning, and with great force of moral observation." The second of them is marked by many passages written with the nervous strength of Churchill." In Bibl. Angl. Poct. £2.12.6. SPECULUM SPECULATIVUM; or, A Considering-Glass; being an inspection into the present and late sad condition of these Nations. Small 8vo. mor. gilt.

Another copy, mor. gilt.

London, 1660
London, 1660

FIDES ANGLICANA, or, a Plea for the Publick-Faith of these Nations, lately pawned, forfeited, and violated, by some of their former Trustees, to the rendering it as Infamous, as Fides-Punica was heretofore. Small 8vo. mor. gilt. London, 1660

The above is a strong remonstrance in prose, upon church lands being resumed by the prelacy, upon forcible entry, and was probably the cause of his being again imprisoned. At the end of this volume is the Catalogue of his writings, by himself.

AN IMPROVEMENT OF IMPRISONMENT, Disgrace, Poverty into Real Freedom, Honest Reputation, Perdurable Riches, Evidenced in a few Crums and Scraps lately found in a Prisoner's Basket at Newgate. Small 8vo. mor. gilt. London, 1661

"A melancholy, but very interesting medley of Metrical Scraps." This volume has eluded the search of Wood and Dalrymple. In Bibl. Angl. Poet. £2. MEDITATIONS UPON THE LORD'S PRAYER, with a Preparatory Preamble to the Right Understanding, and Use of this Pattern. Small 8vo. mor. gilt.
