The to a previous commitment, the Secretary of Agriculture is unale to appear today, so we will proceed with the various agencies int Department of Agriculture and will schedule a hearing for the Secretary before the committee at a later date. The Agricultural Research Service is the first agency scheduled to present testimony to the committee in justification of the Presider's budget request. This agency is responsible for the conduct of re under three major categories: Farm production research, ution research and development, and nutrition and consumer research. Idition, it also conducts foreign research in foreign countries, in dance with Public Law 480, as amended. The agency is also ble for regulatory activities with regard to plant, animal dise and pest control and for the administration of the meat insperion program.
