And fome of them faid, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man 38 fhould not have died? Jefus therefore again groaning in himself (k), cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and 39 a ftone lay upon it. Jefus faid, Take ye away the ftone. Martha, the fifter of him that was dead, faith unto him, Lord, by this time he ftinketh: for he hath 40 been dead four days. Jefus faith unto her, Said I

Then many of the fews which came to Mary, and had feen the things which Jefus did, be46 lieved on him. But fome of them went their ways to the Pharifees, and told them what things Jefus had done.

Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharifees a council, and faid, What do we (a)? for this man 48 doeth many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him (0); and the Romans fhall come and take away both our place (p) and nation. 49 And one of them named Caiaphas, being the high-priest

Then from that day forth, they 54 took counsel together for to put him to death. Jefus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wildernefs, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his difciples.

* TH HEN Jefus, fix days before the paffover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been 2 dead, whom he raised from the dead. There they made him a fupper (a), and Martha ferved: but Lazarus was one of them that fat at the table with him. Then took Mary a pound of ointment, of spikenard, very coftly, and anointed the feet of Jefus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Then faith one of his difciples, Judas Ifcariot, Simon's fon, which fhould 5 betray him, Why was not this ointment fold for 6 three hundred pence (b), and given to the poor? This he faid, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. Then faid Jefus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying (c) hath fhe kept this. For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

On the next day, much people that were come to the feaft, when they heard that Jefus was coming to 13 Jerufalem, Took branches of palm-trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried Hofanna, Bleffed is the

King of Ifrael that cometh in the name of the Lord. 14 And Jefus when he had found a young ass, fat there15 on, as it is written (e), Fear not, daughter of Sion;

behold, thy King cometh, fitting on an affes colt. 16 These things underftood not his disciples at the first : but when Jefus was glorified (f), then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that 17 they had done these things unto him. The people

Pharifees therefore faid among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? Behold, the world is gone after him. 20 And there were certain Greeks (g) among them, 21 that came up to worship at the feaft: The fame

23 And Jefus anfwered them, faying, The hour is 24 come, that the Son of man fhould be glorified. Verily, verily I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground, and die, it abideth alone: but if 25 it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life, fhall lofe it: and he that hateth his life in 26 this world, fhall keep it unto life eternal.
