I have two apologies to make to you. One, for not having written you sooner to thank you for the time that you allowed Dick Bowers and me during our recent visit to HUD and also, to explain why I did not see you in Tampa at the entrepreneurial get-together. I ran into a conflict on something for a client that I could not turn loose, so I just had to make a decision and couldn't make it during the time that you were there.

In following up on another suggestion that you gave us concerning the Vouchers, I an enclosing copies of the letter that was sent to Tom Demery by the Jacksonville Department of HUD. We hope that you can move this along for us perhaps with either a phone call or a recommendation to Tom Demery. We would certainly appreciate your cooperation and we want to thank you for everything. Let me know if there is anything that you need from us.

While visiting at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development last week with Deborah Dean we were discussing the success we have had with the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program (99.9% rented up) and how quickly we are going to be able to lease up the Vouchers that we have been assigned. We expect this leasing to be completed in four (4) weeks.

Our waiting list for housing assistance through Section 8 or Vouchers consist of over 3,500 families.

The City of Jacksonville is experiencing rapid growth. Our increase since 1980 is almost 20% of the total population and we are in serious need of additional housing resources.

For this reason, we would like to request an additional 1500 Vouchers to be awarded to us during the 1987/88 Fiscal Year. We can have the Vouchers under lease within six (6) months. The breakdown of our Voucher Unit Request is:

We are requesting additional Housing Vouchers due to the critical need in our community. We turn at least 100 eligible families away each week whom we would like to be able to serve.
