BUCKBEE, OF THE COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS, HOUSE OF REPRÉSENTATIVES, IN CHARGE OF THE AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT APPROPRIATION BILL FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1937, ON THE DAYS FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8, 1936. STATEMENTS OF HON. HENRY A. WALLACE, SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE, AND W. A. JUMP, DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND BUDGET OFFICER GENERAL STATEMENT Mr. CANNON. The committee will come to order and we will begin hearings on the Agricultural bill for 1937. We have the Secretary of Agriculture with us this morning, and shall be glad to have a statement from him, if he cares to make one at this time. Secretary WALLACE. Mr. Chairman, my time has been occupied with the necessity of examining other things, and I have not had an opportunity of going into the budget estimates to the extent that I really desired to previous to appearing before this committee. However, I will run rapidly and briefly over the main outlines of the budget; and, as is usually the case, you can get detailed information from the experts who are close to the particular details, later on. Of course, if there are any things which you think I can answer better than other people, and I can answer with respect to them, I will be glad to do my best. STATEMENTS SHOWING COMPARISON OF APPROPRIATIONS AND ESTIMATES Mr. JUMP. Before the Secretary goes further, I would like to call attention of the committee to the fact that the statements and financial tables to which he is going to refer have been laid before each member of the committee, so they can be consulted as the Secretary refers to the various items. 1 M144387 |
