Mission: This station is responsible for providing bulk fuel storage to fulfill shore activity and fleet operational requirements in the Marianas area.

Project: Construction of a permanent fuel storage and distribution system, including berthing and fueling facilities in Apra Harbor; pumping stations, pipe lines and storage tank farms for fuel oil, various grades of gasoline and jet fuels; drum filling and storage facilities, and testing facilities.

Agana Naval Air Station, Guam

Mission: Provides support of reconnaissance aircraft, antisubmarine operations. and military air transport squadron.

Cost: $5,958,000.

Project: This program provides for construction of (1) water catchment and storage, approximately 25,000 lineal feet of water distribution system and a filtration plant; (2) a steam power plant, 2,500 kilowatts, including accessories,

and a 40,000 gallon per day water distillation plant; (3) refrigerated storage, 50,000 cubic feet including services; (4) complete sewage collection and disposal systems; and (5) permanent barrack mess hall and galley for 575 men, including utilities and collateral equipment.

Argentia, Newfoundland

Mission: Provides command and logistic communication for mobile units in the Northern Atlantic Ocean areas.

Cost: $3,193,000.

Project: This program provides for construction of (1) permanent communication facilities including operating buildings, shops, power facilities, barracks, utilities, accessory construction, and collateral equipment; and (2) conversion of barrack buildings to provide 65 family quarters.

Pacific

Mission: The basis for the administration by the United States of the trust territory of the Pacific islands is the trusteeship agreement for the former Japanese mandated islands, which was unanimously approved by the Security Council of the United Nations on April 2, 1947 This agreement (S. 318) became effective on July 18, 1947, when it was approved by President Truman pursuant to the authority granted by Public Law 204, Eightieth Congress. On the same date the President by Executive Order 9875 delegated to the Secretary of the Navy the responsibility for the civil administration of the trust territory as an interim

measure.

Cost: $1,000,000.

Project: This project contemplates rehabilitation of existing naval government facilities at Saipan, Koror, Truk, Ponape, Majuro, including family quarters. barracks, shops, dispensaries, storage facilities, and utilities.

Naval station, Roosevelt Roads, P. R.

Mission: In general the mission of this reservation is to provide additional area for Navy and Marine Corps amphibious training and combat training.

Cost: $330,000.

Project: This project proposes the acquisition in fee simple of approximately 4,170 acres of land, more or less, located in the eastern half of Vieques Island, extending across the island in a north and south direction and bounded on the east and west by Navy-owned land.

Mission: Headquarters for Governor of American Samoa, Headquarters Commander South Pacific, and limited logistic support for local craft, including naval and airways communications.
