ALLOYING; AND ROLLING AND DRAWING OF NONFERROUS METALS, EXCEPT ALUMINUM [A preliminary report for this industry was issued October 16, 1940] Description of the industry. This industry embraces establishments engaged primarily in the alloying of nonferrous metals (other than aluminum) from new metals, or from scrap metals; rolling, drawing, or extruding products of nonferrous metals (except aluminum or aluminum alloys), such as plates and sheets, rods, tubing, pipe, and wire. This industry classification does not include establishments engaged primarily in the recovery of nonferrous metals or nonferrous metal alloys. from new or used scrap, nor the casting of such metals into ingots and pigs without alloying, although the figures given in table 4 for brass, bronze, and other alloys include the quantities and values of such metals. Statistics for prior census years. Prior to 1939 the establishments classified in this industry were combined with those of two other industries. This industry, as constituted for census purposes, consists in the refining and alloying of gold, silver, and platinum from bullion, sweepings, scrap, and old metal. The recovery of gold and silver in the refining of copper and lead is covered 1939 1937. 1935 1933. 1931 1929 1927. 1925 1923. 1921 1919. 1914. 1909 1904. 1899. by the Primary Smelting and Refining of Nonferrous Metals industry. A small quantity of platinum is also obtained in the electrolytic refining of copper. The extraction of metals by washing and milling does not come within the scope of the Census of Manufactures.
