CATECHETICAL ANALYSIS,

&c.

Q. WHAT is the meaning of the word Creed? A. It is the substance of a Christian's belief. Q. What is the first article in the Creed? A. "I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth."

Q. As the first word, "Credo," I believe, opens the Creed, and gives a denomination to the whole confession of faith, from thence commonly called the Creed, how far does it connect itself with the whole body of the confession?

A. We must conceive it virtually prefixed to the head of every article: that, as we say, I believe in God the Father Almighty; so we are also understood to say, I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord; as, I believe in the Holy Ghost, so also, I believe in the Catholic church.
