(Commission dated November 29, 1877.) 1 Assigned to the Seventh Circuit by assignment of the Supreme Court dated December 19, 1892, (up to which date Mr. Justice Harlan was assigned to sit in said circuit,) and became entitled to sit in the Circuit Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit between said date, and during the absence of Mr. Justice Harlan as an arbitrator on the part of the United States at the Bering Sea Fur-Seal Arbitration in Paris, and April 2, 1894, when Mr. Justice Harlan was reassigned to the Seventh Circuit. The Chief Justice did not take part in the hearing and decision of any of the cases reported in full in this volume. 2 Presided at the first meeting of the court on June 16, 1891, when the court was organized, and subsequently took part in the hearing and decision of many of the cases reported in full in this volume. Mr. Justice Harlan was entitled to sit in this court by virtue of his assignment by the Supreme Court to the Seventh Circuit from June 16, 1891, to December 19, 1892, when the Chief Justice was assigned by the Supreme Court to said circuit during the absence of Mr. Justice Harlan as an arbitrator on the part of the United States at the Bering Sea Fur-Seal Arbitration in Paris. |
