None of us being well versed in statutory language, have analyzed the bill completely. That detail is left to your good judgment and that of your colleagues. We do, however, heartily approve of the sense of the bill as gleaned from the record of your debate in the Senate of Friday, January 6, 1961. As sportsmen and as individual citizens we cherish the natural resource which permits us to get away from daily cares and routine into the wilderness areas. Our discussion of this matter brought out to some extent the position of those who are not in favor of such a system. We are quite willing to grant that easy access to the natural wildernesses is desired for those who do not wish to face the rigors of hiking or horsebacking into such areas. It was felt, however, that those in that category are presently able to enjoy scenic areas by means of automobiles and that additional inroads into wilderness areas would serve no real need. We also felt that exploitation of the timber resources would serve only the economic status of one generation and that we feel is being a little shortsighted. As indicated above please be advised that our organization of some 60 members is fully in favor of passage of Senate bill No. 174.
