THE PENSION OFFICE is an immense red brick structure 400 x 200 feet. Here

is conducted the vast business of dispensing about $140,000,000 a year to
nearly a million pensioners. The chief architectural adornment of the
building is a broad frieze of military figures which passes all the way
around the building, typifying the resistless onrush of the national armies.
