My publication of "the Book of Genesis, translated from the LXX," having been favourably noticed, so far as I am aware, by those who took the trouble to criticise it, I have felt encouraged to proceed on the same plan with the two Books of Scripture next in order, Exodus and Leviticus; the former of which is appointed as a subject of examination to the Candidates for Theological Honours at Cambridge, in the spring of 1857. The "Historical and Critical Commentary" on that Book, by Dr Kalisch, has been of considerable service to me; and would have been more so, had it come into my hands before my notes were commenced, instead of at a time when they were very nearly completed. I am also under obligation to Dr Davidson's "Hebrew Text revised;" especially for instances of support given to the Septuagint Version of particular passages by manuscripts in the original language.
