May 11.

CHRIST, OUR CAPTAIN.

O CHRIST, thou knowest that I am hourly engaged in a spiritual warfare, that I have to contend with my own sinful heart, and with Satan and the fallen angels. I desire to take thee as the Captain of my salvation, manfully to fight under thy banner against sin, the world, and the devil, and to continue thy faithful soldier and servant unto my life's end. Amen.

CHRIST, OUR EXAMPLE.

GIVE, me, O Christ Jesus, thy holy mind and heavenly disposition. Help me to follow closely in thy footsteps. Grant that I may resemble thee in thy love to God and man, thy diligence and zeal in thy Father's service, thy patience under the bitterest trials, thy holiness and self-denial, thy meekness, gentleness, and humility. Amen.

May 13.

CHRIST, OUR EXAMPLE.

MAKE me, O Christ, perfectly conformed to thy image. May I endeavour for the future, with the Holy Spirit's help, to walk with thee so closely, that men may take knowledge of me, as they did of Peter and John, that I have been with Jesus. When thinking, may I consider how my Saviour would have thought; when speaking, how he would have spoken; and when acting, how he would have acted, if placed in my situation. Amen.

THANKSGIVING TO CHRIST.

I THANK thee, my Saviour, for having left the realms of bliss, the seat of glory, the bosom of thy Father, and for shedding thy blood for the sins of the world. I thank thee that, though rich with all the riches of heaven, thou didst become poor, that we, through thy poverty might become rich, with all spiritual and eternal riches. Amen.

ST. PATRICK'S PRAYER.

CHRIST be with me, Christ before me, Christ after me, Christ in me, Christ under me, Christ over me, Christ at my right, Christ at my left, Christ at this side, Christ at that side, Christ be in the heart of each one I speak to, Christ in the mouth of each person who speaks to me, Christ in each eye which sees me, Christ in each ear which hears me.

May 16.

DEVOTION TO GOD.

Amen.

GRANT, heavenly Father, that I may not give up my heart to self and the world, but to thee. May nothing of an earthly nature keep me back from thee. I desire to present my body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to thee. Make me more devoted to thee and thy happy service. I plead only the infinite merits of my Redeemer. Amen.

DEVOTION TO GOD.

HEAVENLY Father, I seek from thee grace to dedicate myself, my soul and body, all that I pos

sess, and all I can do, a sacrifice to thee. I would give thee my heart, time, and talents. Grant that I may keep nothing back from thee, who hast given more than all heaven for my ransom, and esteem nothing too good to give thee, to whom I am so deeply and eternally indebted. Grant my petitions, for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

GOD, A SUN AND SHIELD.

BE thou, O God, a Sun to enlighten me, a Shield to protect me, give me grace here, and glory hereafter, and withhold no good thing from me. I pray that goodness and mercy may follow me all the days my life; and may I dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Accept my unworthy petitions, which I offer up in thy Son's great name. Amen.

GOD, OUR DEFENDER.

DEFEND me, O Lord, with thy heavenly grace, that I may continue thine for ever, and daily increase in thy Holy Spirit more and more, until I come unto thy everlasting kingdom. Amen.

May 20.

WALK WITH GOD.

ALMIGHTY God, I pray for grace to walk with thee as closely as thy servant Enoch. Enable me to walk with thee in a separation from this sinful world, in daily communion with thee, and a constant dependence upon thee. May it be the delight of my life to enjoy fellowship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen,

May 21.

TRUST IN THE LORD.

GOD of all mercy and truth, enable me, by the Holy Spirit's assistance, to put my whole trust and confidence in thee, for time and for eternity. May I trust thee with my whole heart, and lean not to my own understanding. I desire to "taste and see that the Lord is good." Though thou slay me, yet may I trust in thee. Turn not a deaf ear to my petitions, for Christ's sake. Amen.

May 22.

DELIGHT IN THE LORD.

GRANT, most merciful Father, that I may not delight in sin, and the world's unlawful pleasures, but have grace to delight myself in thee, thy ways, and thy works, in prayer, praise, the study of thy holy word, attendance upon the means of grace, drawing near to thy holy table, keeping holy thy sabbaths, converse with thy people, and in my lawful calling, for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

May 23.

COMMIT THY WAY TO THE LORD.

LEAVE me not, most gracious God, to take my own sinful course, but lead me by thy Spirit, guide me with thine eye, direct me by thy Providence, all the days of my life. Order my steps aright, and according to thy word. Guide me with thy counsel, and afterwards receive me to glory. In all my ways may I acknowledge thee, and thou wilt direct my paths. Take all my affairs into thy hands, for the sake of Christ Jesus, my Saviour, Amen,

May 24.

REST IN THE LORD.

GOD of all mercy, grace, and love, enable me to rest in thy will, for whatever thou willest is best; may I rest in thy love, for it is boundless; rest in thy mercy, from which flow endless streams of blessings for my soul's supply; and rest in thy word, which is true and unchangeable. Grant that I may find my truest happiness in resting in thee. Let thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thine unworthy servant, for Christ's sake. Amen.

May 25,

REJOICE IN THE LORD.

ENABLE me, good Lord, to rejoice in thee always. Give me a 66 joy in the Holy Ghost; may my joy be full. Grant that I may experience a peace and a joy in believing in Christ Jesus. Withhold not

from me, I beseech thee, this fruit of the Spirit. "Hearken to the voice of my cry, my King, and my God," for my Saviour's sake. Amen.

May 26.

A DAY OF PRAYER AND PRAISE.

I PRAY, O God, that this may be a day of humiliation, on account of all my sins; a day of reflection upon the past, the present, and the future; a day of earnest prayer for thy richest blessings to be poured forth upon myself and others; and a day of praise for all thy countless mercies. I plead not my own merits, but the infinite merits of him who died upon the cross to save our ruined race. Amen.
