HELP FROM GOD.

OMNIPOTENT Jehovah, help me to follow the bright example of my Saviour, and to go about this sinful world doing good. Enable me to take his easy yoke and light burden; patiently to endure all the ills of this mortal life; to acquiesce in thy will; keep thy commandments; and at length finish my course with joy; for the infinite merits of Christ Jesus, my Saviour. Amen.

Feb. 17.

DECISION.

MAKE me, O God, more decided for thee, against the world, in my opinions and practices, to take a right course, and to be separate from sinners and from sin. May I resolve, with the Holy Spirit's help, to serve thee faithfully and heartily all the days of my life, and no longer halt between two opinions. I address thee, O heavenly Father, in Christ's great name. Amen.

GRACE. GOD of all grace, I for pray grace perity and adversity, in time of manhood and old age, in time of health and sickness. I seek a living grace for a living hour, a working grace for a working hour, a praying grace for a praying hour, a suffering grace for a suffering hour, a striving grace for a striving hour, and a dying grace for a dying hour. Hear, and answer me, for the sake of him whom thou hearest always, even Jesus. Amen.

GRACE TO PLEASE GOD.

Most gracious God, enable me to please thee in all my thoughts, words, and works. I pray that I may please thee by keeping thy commandments, by living to thy glory, by my daily self-denial, by my patience under trials, and submission to thy holy will. May I ever bring joy to thy loving heart, O Father; to thy loving heart, O Saviour; and to thy loving heart, O Holy Spirit. Grant my earnest desires, thou triune Jehovah. Amen.

MEDITATION.

FATHER of mercies, grant that I may not meditate upon sin, and upon forbidden objects, but upon heaven and heavenly things. May I not think of the sweetness of sin, but rather of its bitterness, and of its bitter consequences. If my eyes are kept waking at night, let my meditations on thee, and on thy blessed promises, be sweet and useful to me. I would "remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches." Hear me for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

Feb. 21.

CONSIDERATION.

GRANT, heavenly Father, that I may daily consider thee and thy boundless love; the Apostle and High Priest of my profession, Christ Jesus; the Holy Spirit and his Almighty power; heaven and its unspeakable joys. May I consider my thoughts, words, and works, and be wise. I am desirous of considering where I am going, what I am doing, and the end

and brevity of my life. With faith I place my prayers in the hands of my great Intercessor. Amen.

EXAMINATION.

O LORD my God, give me grace, daily to examine my heart and life, and to search my ways. May I examine my thoughts, words, and works, by the light of thy holy word. I am desirous of examining whether my soul is safe in the arms of Jesus, whether my sins are all pardoned, whether I am born again of the Holy Ghost, and whether I am travelling on the narrow road that leadeth to eternal life. I plead only the merits of my Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

Feb. 23.

DESIRES.

O GOD, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed, give me, I beseech thee, spiritual desires. Let me not be earthly and worldly, but spiritual and heavenly. Grant me a spiritual appetite for thy holy word, and a taste for divine things. Suffer me not to hunger and thirst after worldly objects and sinful pleasures, but after righteousness and holiness. May my soul follow hard after thee and a likeness to Christ Jesus my Saviour, for his name's sake. Amen.

Feb. 24.

VAINGLORY.

MERCIFUL Lord, grant that I may not be desirous of vainglory; nor seek to be a man-pleaser. What I want and pray for is a meek and lowly heart,

one caring not for the applause of man, but desiring above all things a good conscience and thy favour. Ever may I walk humbly with thee, and receive my Saviour into a meek, submissive, contrite heart, for his name's sake. Amen.

THE HEART.

O THOU to whom all hearts be open, I confess that my heart is full of iniquity; and I know that out of proceed evil thoughts, impure imaginations, and "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." Take away the stony heart out of my flesh, and give me a heart of flesh. Cast out every idol that exalts itself against thee. Purify my soul, by the mighty power of the Holy Spirit, for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

Feb. 26.

THE HEART.

GRANT, heavenly Father, that my heart may not resemble the wayside, stony, or thorny ground, but the good ground. May the good seed which is sown in my heart, take deep root downward, and bring forth much fruit upward to thy honour and glory. Enable me to give thee my whole and undivided heart. Answer me according to the fulness of thy mercy in Christ. Amen.

Feb. 27.

THE HEART.

CHANGE, O God, by the Holy Spirit, my heart, mind, will, and life. Fill my heart with holiness, then my thoughts, words, and actions will be holy.

Fill my heart with love to thee; then out of the abundance of my heart my mouth will show forth thy praise. Fill my heart with love to man, then shall I show it by my loving words and works. I pray, through Christ, my all-sufficient helper and Redeemer. Amen.

Feb. 28.

THE HEART.

GRANT, most merciful Jehovah, that I may not give up myself to sin, Satan, and the world, but to thee. Help me to consecrate myself to thee day by day. Take thou my heart, reason, faculties, energies, life, time, means, and all that I possess. Make me and keep me thine for ever. Hear me, O God, for my Saviour's sake; to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, now, henceforth, and for evermore. Amen.

REPENTANCE.

ENABLE me, O God, by the Holy Spirit's help, truly to repent of all my sins. May I know and believe in the necessity of repentance in order that my soul may be saved. Hast thou not declared by the lips of thy well-beloved Son, "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish? I pray that thy goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering may lead me to repentance, for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.
