THOU God of all consolation, in times of affliction, cheer me with the glorious prospects before me, of that rest that remaineth unto the people of God, of that " city that hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God," and of that "inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away.' thee, O God, be ascribed all the praise for thy mercies, for my Saviour's sake. Amen.

Sept. 28.

A CROWN OF GLORY.

То

THOU King eternal, immortal, invisible, make me faithful unto death, and I shall obtain a crown of life, of righteousness, and of glory, that fadeth not away. Never may I forget that I am a stranger and a pilgrim, that here I have no continuing city, and when I die I shall have "a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." Incline thine ear to me and hear me now and ever, for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

Sept. 29.

WITH CHRIST.

GOD of all grace and love, grant that I may look forward, with rapture, to the time when, if I endeavour to follow Christ here, I shall be entirely like him hereafter; when I shall have a glorious body, sit with Christ upon his throne, wear a crown of gold, walk with him in white, and follow in his train

whithersoever he goeth; when I shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on me, nor any heat; for the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed me, and shall lead me unto living fountains of water; and God shall wipe away all tears from my eyes. Hear me, for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

Sept. 30.

No SIN AND SORROW.

THOU fountain of all holiness and happiness, let my thoughts continually dwell upon that glorious place, where there will be no sin, no sinners, no tempter, no temptations, no ignorance, no discord, no fears, no cares, no wants, no sorrow, no separation, no sickness, no tears, and no death. I offer my petitions through Christ, who liveth and reigneth with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

THE EVERLASTING GATES.

THOU, who inhabitest eternity, grant that I may look foward with unspeakable joy to that happy time when the everlasting gates will be thrown wide open for my reception, when I shall enter with Christ, when he will lead me to his many mansions, and appoint me a place in his heavenly kingdom. May I look forward to the time when I shall "shine as the brightness of the firmament," and "as the stars for ever and ever," for Christ Jesus' sake. Amen.

ETERNAL LIFE.

THOU Giver of every good gift, enable me to wait patiently for my good things hereafter. By patient continuance in well-doing, may I“ seek for glory, honour, and immortality," so shall I inherit eternal life. Grant that I may not look "at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen," knowing that "the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." These, and all other benefits, I ask in the name of my great Redeemer. Amen.

Oct. 3.

ETERNITY.

ETERNAL God, let my thoughts be constantly occupied with the solemn word eternity. May I reflect what it will be to live for ever. Enable me firmly to believe, that some shall awake to the enjoyment of "everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt; " that the wicked shall "go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into life eternal;" and that "the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord." Amen.

Oct. 4.

PERSEVERANCE.

Most gracious Father, I pray that I may not grow weary in well-doing, nor slacken my endeavours after the attainment of everlasting life. Give me grace to persevere watching, praying, praising, and

pleasing thee; loving, serving, fearing, honouring, and obeying thee; studying thy holy word, attending upon the means of grace, and at thy holy table, keeping holy thy sabbaths, and following the bright example of Christ Jesus, going about doing good; in whose all-prevailing name I offer up these and all my petitions. Amen.

Oct. 5.

PERSEVERANCE.

GOD of all power and might, enable me to persevere seeking thee, being fully persuaded that I shall not seek thy face in vain. Keep me, I beseech thee, watchful and prayerful all the days of my life. I pray that I may manifest my perseverance by my increasing faith, and have grace to endure even unto the end. Supply all my need out of the inexhaustible riches treasured up for me in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Oct. 6.

PERSEVERANCE.

I PRAY, O God, that Satan may not be permitted to snatch away the good seed that has been sown in my heart. Grant that the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of worldly things, may not enter my heart, and choke the word that has been sown there; but may I receive thy word into a heart prepared by sovereign grace; and may it bring forth fruit a hundredfold, to thy honour and glory, for my Saviour's sake. Amen.

Oct. 7.

PERSEVERANCE.

GOD of mercy, grant that I may not be amongst the number of those who commence well, and then turn aside from the right way; who go back to sin and the ways of the world; who set out upon the road to Zion, but never reach the heavenly Canaan. Make me "steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." Send me not empty away, for the sake of Christ, my Advocate and High Priest. Amen.

Oct. 8.

PERSEVERANCE.

HOLY Father, give me grace to lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset me, and to run with patience the race set before me. Help me to keep my eye steadily fixed upon Christ Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith. Enable me to hold fast the profession of my faith without wavering. I earnestly desire to "abide in Christ," that when he shall appear again the second time, I may not be ashamed. I crave acceptance to my prayer in his infinite merits. Amen.

PEACE.

O THOU from whom all good things do come, I seek at thy hands a true and lasting peace-a peace of mind and of conscience, resulting from a sense of pardoned sin, and of enjoying reconciliation with
