SCRIPTURE SENTENCES.

To be read by the Minister.

AN that is born of woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even as a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect shall come, then that which is in part shall be done away. For now we see through a glass,

darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

The Minister shall then say:

FORASMUCH as it hath pleased Almighty God to take unto himself the soul of this his child, we do therefore commit his [her] body to the earth, dust to dust and ashes to ashes; the spirit having returned unto God, who gave it.

PRAYERS.

ALMIGHTY God, with whom do dwell

the spirits of just men made perfect, after they are delivered from their earthly life, we humbly commend the soul of this thy servant to thy hands, as to the care of a faithful Creator and most merciful Father, asking that it may be precious in thy sight. Cleanse it from all imperfection, that it may be presented pure and without spot before thee. Make us, who survive, to know how frail we are; and

teach us so to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Amen.

GRANT, O God, that the memory of this

life, and of all earnest, noble lives, may abide in our hearts, quickening us to purer thoughts, nobler deeds, and holier aspirations, until the day when thou shalt call us hence to dwell with thee. Amen.

BENEDICTION.

THE peace of God, which passeth understanding, keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God, the Father Almighty, be with us, and abide with us forevermore. Amen.

The Service of Baptism.

To be read by the Minister.

THEN cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan, unto John, to be baptized of

him.

But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

DEAR

ADDRESS.

To be said by the Minister.

I

EARLY beloved, I welcome you, today, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, to the service of Baptism. rejoice in this simple rite, so fully substantiated in the several Gospels, so universally observed in all branches of the Christian Church, and so closely uniting us to the early times of the apostles and of our Lord himself. This water is a symbol of the spirit of God; and may its pure touch upon the outward body typify the purifying influence of God's spirit in the inmost soul. Thus may the Christian ideal of human perfection be placed before you, and may it lead you into increasing newness of life, until God shall call you hence, to dwell with him. Amen.

Then the Minister, calling the person by name, shall administer baptism, saying:

INTO

NTO the faith, the hope and the love of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, do I baptize thee; and may this water of out
