the Arms Control and Disarmament Act of September
26, 1961 on a continuing basis.

The General Advisory Committee has no termination date, but is subject to the appointment of its members by the President and their confirmation by the Senate, as provided by Section 26 of the Arms Control and Disarmament Act of September 26, 1961.

The Committee is charged by the Arms Control
and Disarmament Act of September 26, 1961 "from
time to time to advise the President, the
Secretary of State, and the Disarmament Director
respecting matters affecting arms control,
disarmament, and world peace. In addition,
President Nixon asked the Committee to examine
arms control and disarmament in the broadest
context of the nation's security and to center
its attention on basic policy matters. He laid
specific problems before it for study and advice
in connection with the Strategic Arms Limitations
Talks, and other arms control matters.
