Small 4to. fine copy in morocco November, 1523 25 This is the actual first edition of the account of the famous Voyage which was the first Circumnavigation of the Globe. A second edition was printed two months later in Cologne, and was dated in old fashion January 1523 (meaning January, 1523-4). Many people erroneously suppose that it was the first, taking "January 1523" to be actually of the year 1523; but the Pope's prohibition of any pirated reprints of this, or any other first edition printed by Calvus, ought to be sufficient to prove that here was the first publication of Magellan's Voyage. 154 MEDINA. Inserted is a woodcut map printed at Zürich in 1546, in which the figure of the New World is given. The author dedicates his work to the Bishop of Bamberg, with the date 9th Kal. of April, 1515. A second dedication is made, also from Bamberg, to Bilibald Pirkheymer by Judocus Ruchomer; in which the latter dwells upon the important addition of the American part (which they called the New World). 157 SCOT'S NEW JERSEY.
