It has been the aim to make particular rather than general subject entries; and when the number of works on any subject is large they have been classifieri. (See Architecture, England.) To avoid the repetition of entries very copious firere, have been made to other entries and titles.

Special attention is called to the list of dramas on pages 157–68. This feature of the catalogue is believed to be entirely unique. And when it is considered that none of the collections of plays contain a general index, and the most of them not even a table of contents, its utility will be readily seen.

While this Catalogue has been going through the press, a large number of books has been added to the library and much new information obtained as to others. When possible this new matter has been inserted in its proper place in the body of the work; but much of it has of necessity been put at the end of the volume in the form of a supplement. The Catalogue thus contains the title of every book in the Library at the beginning of the present year.
