[blocks in formation]

This MAP BOOK contains the major installations and activities of the Military Departments within the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. This includes both command installations and industrial installations owned or leased by the Army, Navy and Air Force. Government-owned industrial installations operated by contractors are included; however, installations with mixed facilities (part Government, part contractor ownership) are not included. A supplemental list of the industrial installations for each Military Department is also included.

Army Those installations designated by the Army as subinstallations and as major activities are indicated by asterisks in the index shown on pages 3 - 6. Major activities are indicated by a single asterisk (*) and subinstallations by a double asterisk (**). In addition, the parent installation into which the subinstallation or major activity fits is shown in a supplemental index, List B. The association between the Army parent installation and subinstallations is not shown on the maps because, in many instances, the subinstallations are separated from the parent installation by a considerable distance.

Navy - Those major activities which tie into a "complex" or are located thereat are designated by an asterisk on pages 7 - 11. This relationship is shown in parenthesis, indentation, or bracketing on the maps.

Air Force - Those installations designated as subinstallations are indicated by a double asterisk (**) in the list of pages 12 - 13. The parent installation is shown in parenthesis under the name of the subInstallation on the maps.

In many instances, both on the individual state naps and in the indexes shown on pages 3 through 17, abbreviations are used. For the most part these are generally accepted terms such as "ord" for ordnance; "ind" for industrial; "IN" for inactive, etc. In event the abbreviation is not recognizable readily, refer to page 18.
