10 DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION Construction of a permanent, non-combustible building with masonry dividing partitions, humidity controls, fire protection system, communications, required utilities, paving, storm drainage, and site improvements. Heating from an existing plant in adjacent building. Not sited on a flood plain. Air Conditioning 5 tons. 11. REQUIREMENT: 5,723 SF Adequate: None Substandard: 1,930 SF PROJECT: This project will provide a secure facility for the storage and repair of small arms and range target mechanisms. REQUIREMENT: An adequate, easily secured facility is required in which to efficiently and economically store and repair small arms for troop units undergoing training or being equipped for deployment. Provision for the installation of an intrusion detection system using FY 80 OMA funds is required. The normal average storage of rifles, pistols, machine guns, rocket launchers and mortars is 1,700 items at any one time. Storage space is also required for electro-mechanical range target mechanisms. CURRENT SITUATION: Small arms storage and repair activities are poorly accommodated in portions of two World War II temporary wooden buildings built for other purposes. Extremely crowded conditions exist with items stored on top of one another. Target mechanisms, maintained by the activity, are inadequately stored in buildings on the ranges. Dust infiltration, lack of humidity control and wide dispersion of present facilities contribute to inefficient management and control. Security for the weapons storage and repair areas is provided at all times, except normal duty hours by six Military Police guards whose services will not be required after provision of this project with an intrusion detection system.
